Remix jobs

| Have you guys ever been approached to do a remix job? Did you end up turning it down? A friend of mine is putting up a remix pack shortly and it looks like a few of us are gonna take a stab at it. In the end he hopes to take the original and the top remixes and farm it out to some labels. Probably won't see any money from it but it couldn't hurt getting your name out there and possibly have a better image when you DO decide to get something released on a contractual basis. Any experience or advice you can offer for doing something like this? Additionally, if any of you out there are interested I'm looking to take on some deep house remixes of maybe some respectful ambient trance, so contact me through PM if you wanted to get a package together. |

I mean if its a request from an established label, then they should already have those terms worked out for you. Just agree and sign the contract. If you are putting together an unsigned track with other remixes to form a package, then just get everything together and submit just like you would with one of your own tracks. If you are getting things together on your own, it helps to have contacts and labels that you have worked with previously. |
Yeah none of us have anything on a label yet I don't think, so this is kind of like the first foray into professionalism, at least for me, so I'm seeking advice from amateur status. |

What would you say qualifies as being 'ready'? |

| i tend to accept everything, this year has started hard and i am being more picky, most important thing is by listening to the original you get ideas quickly of how to improve it with your remix. And i'd recommend you to just listen it once and decide if it's worth remixing or not (take care of melody and some sounds since the rest should be different in your remix) then forget about it and start from scratch to make a real remix, not a copy of the original, if you want it to get signed follow a plot if you want to make good music just be creative. |

I think the goal with this, starting off anyway, would be to get it released on a reputable netlabel for free download. Just kind of a promotional thing. |

What do you mean by this? Just the amount of outlets they have? |

I've only done one remix for Wensley for a Tastexperience track. Now that I think about it I don't think I saw a dime for it, but there were like 9 remixes done on the one track and it was a beatport release so I wasn't expecting anything.
Russell did say it was his favorite of all the remixes, though, that was rather cool. |

I would never use paypal for this sort of thing. |

Then I suppose I would only be interested in signing with the ones that pay by check ;) |

| Tunecore doesn't pay you correctly either (or iTunes doesn't report correctly) . did one release via them 3 test purchases on different dates did not make it into my report, while the timeframe was closed. So even bypassing the middleman brings in new woes with distribution /aggregation. |
