So from everyone that's commented above, have you done the P90X regimen? I'm just curious what other people's results have been.

I think the reason it is so popular is that it is guaranteed results. You turn your brain off and follow.

When I started it, I made the mistake of just going for it, and trying to do everything the hardest way, with max reps, with max weight..etc. That is the wrong thing to do. They have different people in the videos for a reason. You end up repeating all of the workouts a lot, so you can take your time. Just work your way around the circle, each time choosing the person that best matches your fitness level. It will improve, no matter what.

The hardest part is by far the diet for the first 30 days. You have to completely shift your diet structure, and eat almost no carbs, which is very hard, but completely doable. After the first 30 days, it levels off, and by the last 30 days, it is a normal diet.

I never made it all the way through, but it sure did change my life, and my body. I thought working out once in a while was fine. But after being on a 7 day a week schedule for a couple of months, you just get used to working hard, and working often. Even when I worked a lot, and couldn't do the exercises regularly, the fitness stayed with me. My cardio is still at a decent level, and my strength has stayed.

Now, when I want to work out, I just pick a video and follow along. Again, guaranteed results. It is so basic, it works. I got all my friends hooked on it, and it really helps to motivate you when you have somebody to compare against, and a little friendly competition never hurt anybody.

Go for it, you will be happy. I have not met a single person that tried it, and was disappointed.

Nice!
Agreed 200 cals from carbs is hard at first...although you do get carbs elsewhere (the recovery drink, protein bars, fruit etc) which is what makes it manageable I think.

Good to hear you and your friends got such good results. I know a few other people who have just started it as well.

I tell myself "don't think, just do" - it's the only way to get through the program. One day at a time. Each day I feel better and better.

not entirely true. :p

Tried it. Very intense and if you stick to it and follow the diet guide you'll definitely get results. Then again the same can be said about every other workout routine on the planet. The thing that bothers me the most about P90X though, is that it's very very upper body centric. The focus on legs in P90X is weak (no pun intended)

I'm doing a completely different routine right now, but I'm planning on incorporating the yoga, stretching and abs videos from P90X.

Agreed - I wonder if it's because of the limitations of a home gym? It would be hard for men to really push it with dumbbells unless they had essentially a full set.

I really like the legs and back day - actually, the whole program is growing on me. I did the second half of the yoga DVD this morning (I can only do half of it each week bc it's so long!) - as someone who does yoga regularly I was impressed by how thorough it was. Best part was when he stops talking for a whole minute during savasana :)

P90x is for pussies with weak arms like josh koscheck. If you want a real work out check this out RUSHFIT!!!

Because it uses so much body weight, it still works really well for guys. As for dumb bells, I have 10, 15, 20, 25 and 35. For something like lawnmowers, I need a heavier weight, but the rest work pretty well. I just buy another set as my strength increased.

The chin up bar is the most essential item for guys. You never see Indian guys with broad shoulders, and that is because they don't do the upper body properly. Before I did this, my shoulders were pretty narrow, but the chinup bar changed that entirely. It has completely changed my upper body structure.

If you are a girl and want to avoid bulk, do not use the chinup bar. It will guarantee square, manly shoulders.

Because of this program, I will NEVER join a gym. What a waste of money. P90x + summer sports + running, and I am set.

Oh one thing to be careful of: my friends and I noticed that our alcohol tolerance went waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay down after. We went out drinking and most of us were on the floor because we were drinking the same way we did before the program. It is a good thing, but just one more thing to keep in mind.

Is that because you hadn't been drinking as much during the program? It doesn't say in the guide, but I would assume alcohol calories are a no-no. Your body can't use them for anything productive.

I would also assume it's because your metabolism is jacked compared to before - same reason why most people get absolutely wicked hangovers after heavy/intense exercise (I know I do) - your body is processing everything you put in it at warp speed.

Good feedback re. chin up bar - I don't really want to buy one! I do need some heavier weights though, using 10s on some of the arms and legs exercises is not pushing me to max.
StereoPrincess
Do you pay for the videos or can you find the exercises somewhere for free?

I would be interested in doing like 30 days of this. Not gonna suffer for 3 months.

EDIT: They should make a Kinect game out of this.
