| if you are a new artist, expect to get ed. The only thing you can do is try to limit the length of the contract and get a sense of whether they will be supporting you. that is about all your can really bargain with. Also remember that labels often buy out artists and producers with no intention of ever releasing your stuff. If you aren't a priority , go with another label no matter how big they are. It costs them nothing to sign you and hold your name and output in perpetuity. If the contract doesn't guarantee a certain amount of releases , sent a counter offer and if they refuse, go somewhere else. These labels only support their top selling artists and having someone that is decent under lock and key will help keep competition manageable. |

| is it released yet? do they have any remixers on it? i know this might sound weird to some, but can you ask them to not go through with the release? I did that to a label, they were probably pissed and i could have burned a bridge but it doesnt really matter after all. you could get blacklisted within a certain genre if you care, it depends. |

no, released on feb 21. to be honest i was quite pleased to see a 1 page contract with no jargon.
a second ep will be released later on with remixes.
the label isn't tiny either, got a few tracks in the top 100 on trackitdown, i think one is in the top 10.
cant the bigger label just buy thee rights off the smaller label?
edit# this is my third contracr and "seemed" (to me) to be the fairest |

that isn't a contract. There is not sufficient language for it to mean anything. The bigger label could do that but seing as how they won't eve give you an advance, they are going to be investing a total of 0$ in you as an artist. It costs them nothing to sign you. Even if you sell 0 records which you probably will, they haven't lost a cent. IF they thought your track could be big, they would of offered you something. They didn't.
If a label is not going to push your music, don't bother. YOu aren't going to get any money, you will be stuck with a label you might find out isn't right for you. Why lock yourself into a contract when you have absolutely nothing to gain.
Unless I suppose you dj and they have a healthy dj roster and they can guarantee shows. That is the only reason you would sign with a label like this. Otherwise, you have nothing to gain really. And what happens when you start making great tracks, you've already signed a deal which technically given the language can last forever as they don't state when the 5 years starts. Of course the contract is so bad that you could technically sign it and it would have no legal ramifications in that the actual part about exclusive rights does not even specify what rights and to who. |

How exactly does selling 0 copies promote yourself ? Too many young producers get caught up in the mind set that once i'm signed , i'm on another level. Getting signed used to mean something when the medium was vinyl and there was more money at stake and the standards were higher.
Are they going to pay the remixers ? or will they as well be half assed producers that won't get an advance and share a piece of the pie which in this case doesn't exist.
If you aren't expecting to make any money, what on earth are you signing to a label. What do you expect them to do for you ? Are they going to market you ? Do they have the means to get your track not just in the hands of big djs but on their cdjs ? |

and also you are not making no sense (to me), you have basically said at the start the contract is null and void....because of the language used etc ( in that case they can't fark me what so ever)...then you say i could get f@cked becuase over the next 5 years they get all my tracks? |
