Jon Bon Jovi slams Steve Jobs for 'killing' music
March 14, 2011, 3:41 PM EST

WENN

Jon Bon Jovi has taken aim at Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, accusing him of "killing" the music industry with iTunes.

The rocker is saddened that the "magical" experience of buying records in a store is disappearing, brick-and-mortars stores being eroded in part due to iTunes' success.

Bon Jovi tells The Sunday Times Magazine, "Kids today have missed the whole experience of putting the headphones on, turning it up to 10, holding the jacket, closing their eyes and getting lost in an album; and the beauty of taking your allowance money and making a decision based on the jacket, not knowing what the record sounded like, and looking at a couple of still pictures and imagining it."

"God, it was a magical, magical time," he continues, "I hate to sound like an old man now, but I am, and you mark my words, in a generation from now people are going to say: 'What happened?' Steve Jobs is personally responsible for killing the music business."

On one hand I agree with Bon Jovi that kids are missing out on a real experience and are probably missing out on a lot of great music. I remember as a kid buying cassettes for artists I didn't even know just because of the artwork and names of songs. I don't think I ever would have started listening to Skinny Puppy if I just went off a quick preview of the songs.

On the other hand I don't think iTunes is killing the music industry. If anything, technology is killing the corporate music industry.

The problem isn't iTunes or Jobs, the problem lies within the artists themselves. Majority are out to make a buck, rather than go through the creative process of making a start to finish masterpiece.

Adapt or Die plain and simple. He should be happy, people still buy LPs.

Bon Jovi is a ing crackhead, Napster killed the music industry & Steve Jobs revised it and partially saved it.

It's time to head off to the senior's home dude, your time was done along time ago.

You all are missing the point of his statement...

And Jeff.... The irony with your post...

nah. Corporate America killed music. Just churning out boy band after slutty preteen girl artists with the same style, same lyrical content devoid of any true meaning or feeling in the music that was not written by the artists, but by some focus group of future fans.

No, Bon Jovi, Steve Jobs didn't kill music, the Backstreet Boys did.

Dr. Dre, Snoop Dog et al, killed the music industry ... with NSYNC, Britney and the rest of the Idol people.

Please someone resurrect Frank Sinatra.
