totally... I saw an hour long special/documentary on Prince Charles and what a "day in the life" for him looks like, and it was pretty incredible. Philanthropy on steroids... |

I just can't comprehend getting up so early to watch this. Are the highlights on the news or the replay tonight on CBC not enough? |
it's not the same, at least for me I like to watch/experience an event like this at the same time the rest of the world does... |

I saw that too. 'the prince who would be king'? or something it was titled?
Anyways, I didn't wake up to watch it but I just watched the highlights on CBC and as others have said, it's a refreshing change to the doom/gloom we always hear about. Of course they're just '2 people' yadda yadda and may not bear any impact to your life but you have to at least appreciate tradition/history a bit. They seem like a 'cool' couple that will hopefully instill some life into a monarchy which has been beyond dry in it's post-Diana years. |

I'm feeling fairly similar. I didn't wake up to watch the wedding, nor will I bother with highlights. I recognize that the relentless coverage is a sensational news story that detracts from more important issues. But by the same token, I think it's always nice to see people who are happy and smiling--it can work as a cultural injection of happiness. Of course, others will perceive it differently, but I think it's important to celebrate things. Without celebration, what's the point of our existence?
And while I think the coverage and analysis is over-the-top and silly, it'd be hypocritical of me to chide those who enjoy all of it seeing as I'm a huge sports fan, and sports are more or less a sensational news story detracting from more pressing issues as well. Sports are similarly a celebration of what humans can achieve. |
