AMAZING night, Markus was ridiculous. Maybe you can help me, he dropped this track with the vocal from Fat Boy Slim - Funk Soul Brother, best song of the night in my opinion. Any clue on track id? Thanks!
I think it might have been the Koen Groeneveld remix of The Rockefeller Skank.
Also I was so close to that fight by the back bar that I got blood on my white shirt and when the bouncers came around looking for bloody people I had to toss my shirt or risk getting thrown out. Good thing I had taken off my button down before the fight so I had something to throw back on. And yeah that Russian kid started a fight with one of the asians not knowing 10 more were waiting in the shadows. He paid the price... the 2nd white kid wasn't trying to fight too hard so they only punched him around a little bit and he got off easy. Bouncers did try to do something about it but those asians were so quick about it they just went back to dancing and the bouncers couldn't prove who did it.
But on a more musical note....
First off, Zack & Jason did a stellar job of opening. They built up the energy great and it flowed so well into Markus' set I had to take a glimpse at the booth to make sure Markus had gone on. Flawless transition from the end of their set to the beginning of his. (Whichever one of you played David Tort - Jack It Up... I'd guess Jason would. THANK YOU!!! What a monster track!)
And Markus, holy hell Markus is my favorite trance DJ by farrrrrrr he is just unmatched by anybody else. Sander is great too but nobody can play like Markus can play. Nobody. And if you were there Friday night you can not argue that. He puts every other DJ to step foot in Pacha NYC to shame every single year. Markus... Thank you!
Any idea if/when the recorded part of the night is/will be up? I know for sure he recorded at least part of the set.

Part of me wishes he would do the whole five hours, but then it was such an awesome night, I want it to be special for just those that were actually there, lol.

Thanks so much guys for the nice words and support regarding Zack and mines set, we truly appreciate it. I've never been one for back to back sets to be honest, but I have to admit that it was so much fun and I felt that musically Zack and I fit very well together. I'm sure that we will be doing it again at some point in the future and I'm looking forward to it. And a special thanks to Zack as the Markus opening slot was his but he wanted to do a tag team opening set with me instead which is pretty much the reason why it all happened.
As for Markus, he has always been one of my favorites and his set this past Friday night was absolutely stellar. Being a progressive DJ, I really appreciate the whole progression aspect of a DJ set. I have heard so many DJ's over the years start off their set at a certain energy level and either go up and down from their or simply remain flat-lined for the rest of the night. Markus on the other hand is a master at consistently building energy as the night goes on. At about 3:30am'ish his set really started to take off, bomb after bomb, lots of Techno mixed in with Trance, it was awesome.
All in all it was an amazing night and as always a great "Made" Event. It's always a pleasure and an honor to be on the same bill as Markus, he is not only a great DJ, he is an extremely nice person as well.

Way late on this, but last Friday was just nuts. Honestly, as good as Markus' set at Pacha was last year, I thought this outing topped it. I was extremely jetlagged, so left around 4:30 or so, but man did he bring it. No fluff, no cheese...just banging trance music all night.
I think a lot of trance djs THINK they know what New Yorkers want in terms of their trance sets...you see a lot of djs come in and play styles that they don't usually play, because they assume its NYC and they should play a certain way. Markus KNOWS what NYC wants when he is here, and he doesn't dissapoint. The guy is on another level really.
On the opening front, I had a absolute blast playing alongside Jason. We had been toying around with the idea of playing together for awhile, but just never made it happen. Glad we finally did though, as I think our styles compliment each other well. Hopefully we'll do it again soon. :)
Good seeing everyone out too. So damn many familiar faces running around on the mezz all night. Always fun. :)

That track is a monster indeed! Thanks for the ID. Not sure where I heard it recently, maybe Jason played it at D36 a few months ago? Here is a clip of it:

I always said Markus is probably the best trance dj out there. Him and Sander are my top two at the moment. He rocked the place from start to finish. Also it's cool to see a dj close out the night, and stay a bit longer to speak with the fans. He truly is a class act.
I really would of like to heard Zack and Jason's set, but I was on at the same time in the basement. If you guys recorded please post it up, I would like to listen to it.
Also want to thank everyone for the great support in the basement. Really had a blast, and everyone down there was having a blast as well. Good to see some many people there enjoying the music.

Same exact feeling here.
I don't see Markus selling out, either. He truly is a genuine DJ.

i dont think he's selling out, but he does play different in some cities, like more commercial
but since he been coming to pacha he knows how to work that room and the nyc crowd
really loved that set

I agree with this!
but hes been noted to state why:
promoters and venue owners tell markus what to play in a lot of cases (not that he listens...unless he needs the advice). ESP when hes knew to the area or its really small, and short set.
the only best bet in this industry on a small venue for a 2 hour set to a place who never gets trance is....yeah...asot wanna be sets.
sadly...they are the majority crowd pleasers so its the way to go on small shows...but MARKUS is a bit different bc hell actually feel out the crowd and if he can get away with the REAL ...he will....its just a rarity, sadly...that the smaller crowds react well to it :(
