Let the Mac vs PC war begin! :disbelief

I'd rather see another COR vs srussell war :clown:

I don't think MS will ever recover from Vista, the technology equivalent of Waterworld.

I don't think that's necessarily true. While Vista was a huge colossal failure, so was Windows ME, and they recovered quite well with XP. And while Apple is "the cool" brand, Microsoft still has the edge with corporations. It's kind of like why employees are given Blackberries instead of iPhones. Why spend almost twice as much when they both do essentially the same thing?

Basically. It's been known for a while that majority of the country are trendy idiots that are computer-illiterate. In fact I'm surprised it took this long for Apple to overtake MS.

the funny thing is ms help apple a lot. From Bill help coding with woz to ms investing half a billion in apple in the late 90s.

I think it's more the iPhone that did it rather than Apple computers. I'd be interested to see how sales of Apple computers only have changed over the past few years. It's possible that a poor economy could lead to more people buying cheaper computers.

I read an article that said more and more companies are ditching M$ and going with different Linux distributions.
One major company in China (I think) had switched when Microsoft tried to push a Windows 7 with Office, and some other , bundled on them.

Hopefully the corporations will open their eyes to the awesomeness that is open-source OS'es, and we'll get some proper development, and porting, of software for Linux.

Also, with Valve porting Steam and the Source engine to Linux, that might pull over some gamers too.

You should look into QNX. They make a really cool OS. I believe it's being used on Blackberry's upcoming tablet.

I don't really see corporations on a large scale switching over to Linux-type OSes, as it would waste a lot of time and money training all of their employees on how to use them.

I hadn't heard that about Steam. I used to play L4D a lot, but once I started work which involved sitting at a computer all day, it has become less and less appealing to sit on a computer when I'm home.

Oh yeah, that's right you work in IT. :clown:

But for srsly, that QNX looks like there's no fancy , straight to business kinda thing.

Regarding training employees to use Linux, I think most people wouldn't need it, if they are used to Windows. I switched over to Ubuntu from XP, and it just... whats the word? Clicked.. Yeah that works, it was just install->use. easy as . And I am in no way a computer genius. While I have built several computers, and I can probably fix a BSoD, I consider myself more of a power user than an admin.

For companies that use mostly just Word, Excel and Outlook, training the employees would probably take less than a day. And while 1 day of loss of income, plus hireing someone to do the training could be pricey, it's sure as hell cheaper than buying licences for OS and software from MS.

I think many people are still under the impression that you need to know C++ to use Linux. Most newer distributions have buttons and menus and automated stuff, in addition to the possibility to pop up the terminal and type away till your fingers are blue.
