Their opinions in reality mean nothing to the outcome of your event. I think you should aim for a larger audience though and do up some small flyers. Flyer around the Collingwood area, there's tons of girls looking for action around there.
And yes, if you make it a personal event, like a private 'invite only' party, you can avoid the red tape and all that other crap.
your statements contradict each other.
once you advertise an event publically and anybody can just show up, it no longer remains classified as a private event.

Wrong. As Tyler mentioned, we've had legendary cottage parties, TOTA block parties, and parking lot parties. All of which had security (typically just people signing up to take turns keeping an eye on things) and fancy porta jons. People are willing to pay for these things for their own safety and comfort (who likes waiting for a bathroom for an hour b/c there's only one?).

Keeping it small, basic etc, great idea and that's what I'd do. Just don't throw up internet posts about it if that's the case. You can say 1-10 people from here max but truth be told if you don't really know those 10 people there's a good chance one of them tells a person, who tells a person, who tells a person, who tells the triads, crypts and bloods. Next thing you know... But all kidding aside I think most learned that in highschool. If you want something small you should treat it as such and be careful who you tell. And I understand you don't want to hire security but you should have a plan and people to help you if those unwanted types happen to find out and come.
The other thing is as someone said above don't be afraid of charging people. Most would be glad to pay $10 or whatever for a DJ, proper toilets, bunch of waters/snacks etc. You'll also weed out some of the people that you'd rather not come by charging. You sound like you have the effort required to pick some music but if you don't have the experience no matter how hard you won't be able to DJ that well. You need to be able to watch and see what the crowd likes then use that to pick your next songs and build a vibe. That doesn't happen with playlists and set genre switching every couple hours.
As for the emergency stuff I hear you. I spent a good part of my time growing up in the boonies too and understand the bush party mentality. The difference is you're talking about an island in the middle of no where. I'd recommend at minimum a good first aid kit and finding a friend who knows what they're doing ie paramedic, nurse, I'm sure someone has a friend who is one. FYI that air lifting if required for some incident that happened due to the party will be charged to you. And that's not really a couple bucks we're talking about...
All that being said hope everything works out for you dude. But take the advice on here somewhat seriously cause you're getting it from people with tons of experience. Dunno how old you are but your attitude reminds me of mine in grade 10 or something. Worry free attitudes are all great until hits the fan.

jesus man you're full of fail.
- You throwing party in the bush and you care about wherether your kegger is legal or not.
- You are a "dj" but you ask people for tracks?
- somehow you think you can play a successful 12 hour set but with a style listing that you mention is it will sound absolutely terrible in nature
- lasers and fog machines? i'm sure there is some real fog there and bright moon is better than any laser

I think that statement was a fail.
