No, it definitely wasn't. Unless he was riding a horse while simultaneously ringing bells and shooting guns of course. That Revere was a talented rider, it seems. What she posited as a fact was not a fact. It's like her saying that the Statue of Liberty was a gift from other nations as a warning to not adopt socialist practices. Just because in her barely coherent false ramblings, she happened to mix in some factual statements, does not make what she said true. She said that Paul Revere was riding around ringing bells and shooting guns. That's just what she said, and no amount of twisting that around can change the semantic meaning of the sentences (and I use that term very loosely) that she uttered.

So just please explain this. If Revere was riding his horse through town, simply warning the locals that the British were coming, and then the locals started ringing bells and firing warning shots, does that mean that Revere was ringing bells and firing warning shots? (That is a yes or no question)

From your same article:

quote:
“I suppose you could say that,” Leehey said. “But I don’t know if that’s really what Mrs. Palin was referring to.”

McConville said he also is not convinced that Palin’s remarks reflect scholarship.

“I would call her lucky in her comments,” McConville said.

What's even more disgusting is that she used her strategically worded nonsense to surmise that Revere was riding to protect the Americans' right to bear arms. Something I'm sure would fit well into her agenda of believing that it is our god-given right to own a fully automatic assault rifle with no permit.

You can keep posting the same quote over and over, but it doesn't change the fact that the actual statement that she made was not true. Revere was not riding around shooting guns and ringing bells. She said that. End of discussion.

And the original historical text written by Revere:

http://www.masshist.org/database/im...tpc=&pid=#page1

This is how she is wrong:

quote:
Revere “warned the British that they weren’t going to be taking away our arms by ringing those bells and making sure as he’s riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be secure and we were going to be free.”

In his statement, which you so kindly posted, he says:

quote:
I observed a Wood at a Small distance, & made for that. When I got there, out Started Six officers, on Horse back, and orderd me to dismount;-one of them, who appeared to have the command, examined me, where I came from,& what my Name Was? I told him. it was Revere, he asked if it was Paul? I told him yes He asked me if I was an express? I answered in the affirmative. He demanded what time I left Boston? I told him; and aded, that their troops had catched aground in passing the River, and that There would be five hundred Americans there in a short time, for I had alarmed the Country all the way up. He immediately rode towards those who stopped us, when all five of them came down upon a full gallop; one of them, whom I afterwards found to be Major Mitchel, of the 5th Regiment, Clapped his pistol to my head, called me by name, & told me he was going to ask me some questions, & if I did not give him true answers, he would blow my brains out. He then asked me similar questions to those above. He then orderd me to mount my Horse, after searching me for arms

He was not ringing bells and shooting shots in the air to warn the British. If he was in fact ringing bells and shooting shots (which it seems unlikely due the fact that it was late at night and he was involved in a secret mission), it was to wake up the colonists, to inform them that the British Army was coming and that they needed to mobilize themselves. He was then caught by a British patrol on his ride and told them five hundred Americans were coming. This was so that they would go warn the rest of the British Army, and NOT keep patrolling, as Revere thought the patrol was going to Lexington to arrest Adams and Hancock. After the patrol left him to go warn the rest of the army, he ran to the house Adams and Hanwere and helped them escape, while the battle of Lexington was happening.

She's wrong.

A portion of the proceeds of that book should go to the Sarah Palin Foundation for kids who can't read good. And no, I haven't. :p
