Is that the very same uber radical Marxist who's a billionaire hedge fund manager? The same one who is a huge fan of The Open Society And Its Enemies, Karl Popper's aggressive critique of Marx and his politics?
|
LOL... yeah he used Popper's theories in the 1950's for himself, and got rich trading. Conveniently, you forgot to mention his 1997 paper "The Capitalist Threat" where he wrote about Capitalism and not Communism being the main enemy of open society. Like all Marxists in positions of power, they don't subscribe to their own philosophy. His hedge fund is a means to an end for him; he can't have the influence he has in over 118 media outlets worldwide without it.

How often does the "lamestream media" report on the influence of the Koch brothers on right-wing policy? Oh, right, they don't. |
Soros has spend BILLIONS on his media influence over the years, which includes all the mainstream outlets except Fox. The Koch brothers have donated like $14 million since 1998 to the Cato Institute. Big deal.
Only their hypocrisy pisses me off. There is a special fund at the Treasury Department for taxpayers who want to make "gift contributions to reduce debt held by the public." Nobody is stopping them from scratching all the checks they want and pay more. Yet, rarely any contribute anything extra, and when they do it amounts to nothing more than a rounding error. And they take full advantage of the loopholes available to them. |

Did you actually read the paper, in which he discusses "Communist oppression," how he formed a foundation to oppose and dismantle Communist regimes, and in which he says that communism is "no longer" the chief threat to open society -- implying that it once was? Here's an instructive bit:
| quote: | | I want to emphasize, however, that I am not putting laissez-faire capitalism in the same category as Nazism or communism. Totalitarian ideologies deliberately seek to destroy the open society; laissez-faire policies may endanger it, but only inadvertently. Friedrich Hayek, one of the apostles of laissez-faire, was also a passionate proponent of the open society. Nevertheless, because communism and even socialism have been thoroughly discredited, I consider the threat from the laissez-faire side more potent today than the threat from totalitarian ideologies. |
But yeah, he's a real Commie all right!
Come on, man, this is too easy. Step it up.

I saw this thread come up yesterday, but didn't look into it. I just watched the bit from The Colbert Report about it and thought I'd come take a look, thinking "boy, even Kevin has to be shaking his head horribly at this"...
Even better. :stongue: :stongue: :stongue: :stongue: |

Isn't it just easier to say she was right this time? Then it'll mean more next time you call her an idiot when she F's up, which she eventually will.
Wait, has it been determined if she was right yet? I haven't been following it that closely. |

Check out the ratings about her statements on PolitiFact
it's amazing how many of her statements are either barely true false or pants on fire.
she's appears to be one of the worse. What's the most shocking is that I can't recall a single time she's been sensible in an interview(which she never gives) or in public statements.
How can anyone take her seriously? People are so caught up with the idea that she's one of "us" but look at what she's done .... she quit her politically carreer to become some tv wh*re.
Republicans/right slanted people are pretty wild with ratings http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-m...ngs/pants-fire/ |

Is Barack Obama stupid for signing his name followed by "May 2008" in the Queen's guest book in London last month, forgetting it was 2011? If Palin made that gaffe we'd never hear the end of it. But Obama does it and it's "Oh snap, the man was jet lagged, give him a break." |
When you're an idiot every stupid little thing you do is blown out of proportion. When you're smart, those little blunders are forgiven. |

Here's an interesting topic I brought up with my republican coworker. I asked him how she could justify doing this. His response was that she was flooded with lawsuits from completely fictional characters looking to ruin her, and according to Alaska law which states that the governor has to pay for all personal legal fees him/herself, she had no other choice but to resign her seat so as to avoid personal financial ruin from addressing them all. If she were to do this, her time would also be consumed, and she would be unable to put the appropriate amount of effort into running the state.
If this is true, it seems justifiable, and a much more palatable explanation than just getting a job at Fox and possibly running for president. I'd be curious to hear what Kevin's thoughts on this are, and if he can provide me with any links to credible sources so that I might verify it. |
