Go rid of the hiphop, friendlier staff, good energies all around

Next step is to take care of AC

We're working on a few solutions at the moment

Obvously having that many people inside one place dancing etc ... it will get hot ... that's the way afterhours should be ... but it was a bit too much at some point and we've tried many solutions on the spot

I agree with everyone, there is work to do and so far we've been listening a lot to what our clientele has to say ... and that's our main priority

Expect change in a very near future :)

Promesse de Scout haha

Anyways ... all i can say is this :

What a night !!!

Amazing set by Voorn & massive party in that trance room ... wow

Diggers had a blast and wanted to play till noon lol

Working on bringing him back and for a longer set this time ... according to his request after the show :D

Thanks to everyone who made it

See you soon guys !

Props to you Louis and the whole Circus crew, I remember when you first started working for Circus a few years back, I don't wanna take anything away from all the other hard workers at Circus, but you my friend are a champ! You guys have owned it in every sense of the word and it's paying off big time!

Like I said It's been a few years since I've been and I went alone and it had that old school vibe, and the only thing I overdosed on was a bit too much Rum lol. The sound system in there is freaking ridiculous, the crowd was eating it up!

BTW I had a bit of nostalgia when I walked into the the side room and heard Lethal Industry playing :D Dear god that brought back memories. :toothless

I can honestly say for the passed 2 years I've been so sketch about going to an afterhours (very different when those chemicals aren't flowing through you lol/all I can think about is ARIA)

But seriously Friday night was such a god damn party it renewed my faith lol, I will definitely be going back soon.

I'm trying to pick out the bad things from that night, but I really can't haha. The music/crowd/vibe was amazing! I'm so glad I ended up going, although that damn taxi ride was fakin expensive lol.

And the worst part about that whole night was when the pre-sales were out at $30, I told myself if you don't buy them now your gonna end up deciding the night of to go.

Oh well! :D Was freaking worth it!

BTW this may be random, and ps I'm not complaining at all, holy even now (Sunday Morning) my nose is still clogged!

Digweed KILLED it! Absolutely destroyed it! 90% of what he played was completely new stuff, unreleased, unknown, and just mind blowing. He came on about 30mins late but played an extra hour taking away an hour into Voorn's set which I really didn't like. I remember looking at Voorn waiting patiently in the booth to take over and he didn't seemed very pleased. I believe Voorn should've opened for John and Digweed should have closed.

Diggers mixing was completely flawless; the skills he possesses is like no other Dj, just so on point. The only down flaw of his set was his last hour. It felt like he was throwing a bunch of random tracks testing them out.

Overall it was great party! Haven't been to Circus since Hernan and the place does look beautiful. It has a more upscale look compared to the original look and the sound system does sound a lot better.

So happy to hear good feedback from John it did seem like he didn't want to leave the booth. I think if Joris wasn't there he would have played till the very end. Voorn's set was ok but again it's hard to play after a set like Digweed pulled off. Big ups to Circus and hopefully we will Digweed in Montreal more often.

P.S. INVEST into upgrading the A.C !!!! ;)

Review time!

I've been having mad expectations for this night for numerous reasons. Was excited for Digweed, Leon Bolier, Circus's new sound system and the little renovations, curiosity to it's fullest. Arrived at Circus at 3 am, was very happy that there was no line-up. Got in very easily, and went to explore the club. As soon as I got in I knew that the night was going to not go so well... It was soo hot, lack of ventilation and I knew the place was going to be even more packed as the night was going to progress ( October 1st 2009 Leon Bolier @ Circus, ventilation didn't work and a couple of peeps that I knew almost fainted due to the heat). Kind of disappointing since the problem isn't new and Circus had it for the past two years...

I'm not going to bitch all day, so let's start talking music. Came in to hear a bit of Omar and Hakim. Loved Hakim's set, very techy dark and sounded very well on the new sound system. When Digweed emerged in the background the crowed started to go crazy. One thing that I love about Circus is the intimacy between the crowed and the dj. You can see how he mixed and all of his reactions since the dj booth is so close to the dance floor.

Digweed started with some good prog, nothing hectic from the start. You could really feel the great energy in the crowed as everyone was about to enter a journey. He mixed up between house and prog for the first hour or so and I really enjoyed it but... At this point the heat in the room was savage, brutal, unbearable... you name it. I was moving from one fan to another, or to the end of the dance floor because I would of passed out if I would of stayed in the crowed the whole night.
As the night progressed, Digweed became much more darker. Major props to the crowed that was rocking the place because as of 6:30 am I started to not enjoy myself very much because of the heat and also because of the brutal sound system. I can't believe that they are soo powerful and loud. The people that stayed all night infront of them must be deff today. Some of my friends started to not feel good because of the temperature and around 8 am I left the place with my crew.

Musically wise, very impressed. Props to Circus to have booked legendary Digweed! He played a very good set and it was fun seeing the majority of the crowed enjoy themselves. As for the venue... I'm greatly disappointed. Yes the new decorations are nice and made the place look more upscale but the ventilation system blows big time. What ticked me off is that Circus had the same problem 3 years and 2 years ago and it hasn't changed. And I feel that every time that Circus is going to book a big dj and the place is going to be packed to the max, it's going to be SAUNA HD. As for the sound system, it is ultra-powerful. Pretty much it. Made my ears bleed a couple of time and I felt that it's too loud of a place like that ( did you guys enjoy it without earplugs? ). I couldn't talk at all to my friends on the dance floor, and my ears are still buzzing till this day.

I give the night 6.5/10 :( . Super pumped for the night, had big expectations, but I sadly couldn't enjoy myself half way trough the night. Next stop : SASHA @ STEREO.

I'm don't know too much about the new configuration of Circus, but you guys could consider setting up a "mist" machine (similar to ones used at sporting events.) in one of the side rooms (far away from any gear of course) as a cheap temporary solution. I saw this in a few european clubs, and it is a nice touch that doesn't break the bank. At least you know they are trying to make you happy guys, give them a chance. If Louis says they are working on it, I tend to believe him, he's not known as a liar.

Concerning the sound being 'brutal' or not designed for the club, it's not the case at all.

I can guarantee you that every time I played no one complained about the sound, never too loud, my friends could easily talk to each other on the dance floor, and ears didn't ring the day after.

They ALL said it was a wonderful sound experience.

It all depends on who is playing and who has control over the master.

Also some DJs have a tendency to layer tracks and add effects on top that makes highs and volumes go crazy, not saying john did that, wasn't there, but that's not a good thing neither.

That is why I insist since the opening of the new club to add a master EQ and db analyzer in the booth so we can know how much we are pumping the main sound. Not just the master of the mixer, which doesn't mean anything considering we play with a lot of different ones.

Me to I believe Louis, but they've been having the same problem for the past 3 years. and it's a major major downer when it's that hot and lacks complete ventilation...

As for Martin's comment, you're right it does depend on the dj who's playing. It was the first time hearing the new sound system, and all of my friends ears are still ringing till this day, even those who had earplugs.

Re:SOUND

My girlfriend and I stood in front of the speakers all night and ZERO ringing in my ears after. Never experienced anything like it before. The sound was amazing, great bass, mids and highs throughout. That being said, I plugged my ears for Hakim's entrie fourth last song. I kept thinking during the song that the master booth would adjust it soon, but I guess there is no master booth control? Anyway, I agree with the above suggestion for a master booth to keep an eye on the levels because there was only 1-2 songs that my ears couldn't handle.

Re:AC

Great on King Louis for acknowledging the issue and working towards a solution. But I'm afraid a little mist won't do. You need to install a huge ventilation and air system that grabs air from the outside and spits it out the other side.

Digweed- Everything I hoped for!

Voorn- Never got to see him. Left just before 8 am... We even showed up at Telus Theatre before Circus which Voorn was supposed to do 2 hours and never showed up... I asked for my money back and they gave it to me.... I will never go to Telus Theatre again after this and the PVD disaster.
