It's not awful. It just isn't for everyone. But I'd like to think people pursing a career in nursing are aware of the hours when they join up.
Plus, night shifts can be great. My last placement had two teams on nights. The first night one team would take a 3 hour nap from midnight-three, then the next would take theirs from three-six. Then the next night we'd switch.
It's different at my current job though - I'm the only one here at night, aside from one housekeeping staff. However, this job is easy and only 8 hour shifts. I can usually make it through without having to take a nap, although my boss has given me permission to do so if I have to.
The other awesome thing about shift work is that with 5 days in a row off all the time, it's very easy to take several small trips/vacations throughout the year.
My one gf doesn't have any schedule really - as long as she works the required number of hours per pay period, she can pretty much work whatever hours she wants/have whatever time she wants off. |

That sounds abyssmal. :stongue:
But then again, I've never been one for naps. I did swing shift forever and, well, it pretty much made slylee leave TA, huh? :toocool: :toocool: :toocool: :toocool: |

| Are you a nurse in the actual metro area of Toronto? I know it must be crazy in Rochester because the ER is always crazy with 3 or 4 colleges in the area, as well as numerous ghettos. I had surgery on my arm at Strong Hospital, and all the nurses there seemed great, but I would imagine the ER nurses would be kind of jaded from dealing with stupid drunk kids and/or gunshot victims to actually be like normal people. |

I don't really like naps either. But the coffee here tastes like Victory Coffee and makes me feel like , so nap it is. |
