I do suck. Let it be known I had Stu's haircut before Stu did, though.

I don't think that's true at all.

When I saw that this thread had generated some interest overnight, my first thought was "oh dear god...how many forever alone cartoons" so this was a pleasant surprise.

Lots of good advice/interesting experiences (aside from not flushing the toilet for days), though I suppose I've picked up one bad habit - I'm constantly walking around in various states of undress, none of which would be suitable for having a guest.

I agree with Jenny about having a glass of wine (or even beer after some hard work) alone. Building my furniture and all that was a bit difficult to do on my own. As stuff showed up over the first 12 days after moving in, I'd put it together, generally be sweaty and exhausted afterward, hop right in the shower and then plop down on whatever was available with a cold beer. Really enjoyable.

I'm a cat person, and I'd love to have a cat in here but to have a cat or dog my rent would be upped by 50 or 75/month and I'd have to leave another 450 as a deposit. At this point I really don't want to deal with that.

I'll make a c0r cribs when everything is finished in here :p

Haha that would be amazing. Video guided tours with a mandatory "and this is where the magic happens" when walking into the bedroom.

Apartments almost always require a pet deposit/additional rent fee - all of mine have - but I have always kept cats under the radar. Maintenance guys don't typically give a , much less would even know you haven't put down a deposit. Unless you never, ever clean, and let your cat tear the place to shreds, chances are they won't ever find out/care.

It's just unfair to have a dog in an apartment, though. And they're the ones who are probably going to get you in trouble with the leasing office anyway.

//Misc. advice if you are new to leasing: "Read your lease" should always go without saying, but pay special attention to move-out procedures. Some places require 30 day notice, some require 60, or even 90 days, the wits. They're not going to work with you on this, so be sure you let them know well in advance.

^yeah i am new to it. i should check that out

i think it's almost unfair to have a cat in an apt like this. when i had cats back home they were always outdoor cats who spent most time outside. i couldn't imagine having one all stuck in here.
maybe i should get something stupid.like fish

I couldn't do it, I'd get really lonely. I have a funny thing where I'll happily sit in my room all night listening to music if I know there are people downstairs, but if there's nobody in I'm likely to start feeling glum and lonely doing exactly the same thing. Bizarre, but true. If you're alone you tend to get "social comedown", where you'll come home after a great time and find an empty house.

I can relate to this, reason why I mentioned inviting friends regularly.

I would also go out and study in public locations (bars, cafés and tourist spots by the lake). It's amazing how many girls approach you in these circumstances. I never had to actually write "the book that I never finished" in front of them to get some sort of appeal :p

Strongly recommend.
