I think u watch too many movies; u would need a large military force of over throw the regime and install a stable government like we're doing in Afghanistan. You act like we only need to knock off 20 ppl and everything would be ok. So I guess ur suggesting we send in small group of Special Forces like in Somalia, and have them ambushed killed and dragged thru the streets of Baghdad, I don’t think so.
I don’t know who told u we're carpet-bombing them, we're not. Now repeat after me strategic bombing yes, carpet-bombing no. The same type of bombing complaints was raised in Afghanistan. The whole world can sit back and pick apart everything we do. We're trying to put Sadam out of business the cleanest way possible but in the real world everything is complicated.
Finally, the main reason we're taking our time is, we're a democracy and bush is carefully gathering a consensus about how we should precede. If we were a dictatorship we would just act without thinking. I hope that not what you’re suggesting we do. |

if the US didn't support us the we might be dead by now, since the entire europe hates us or doesn't give a damn about us, other countries across the world are just unpluged, and the arabs are like 100 times bigger than us and probably wouldn't hasitate about attacking...
besides that, if the US didn't take apart of this situation, not that i agree with it's ways, but if it didn't, then nobody would stop iraq back in gulf war to develop mass destruction weapons, and nobody would fund any anti terrorist organizations and so on... |

I'd bring up the other fact, that the States is the country that armed this dictator to begin with during the 80's, and that if his people really didn't like him that much they'd go about the business of overthrowing him themselves just like the people in South America are doing to US puppet dictators as I speak.

And how much do you think the US government is paying these "experts"? The Iraqi economy has been crippled by the western economic sanctions...right now Saddam is trying to save face, and keep the country running, not develop weapons of mass destruction. He's been trading with the east to try and help get the economy rolling without the aid of the western governments...is he trying to get nuclear power plants installed? Yes...is that a threat to the United States of all places? No....

Even if he *did* have a nuclear weapon, and *did* want to commit suicide by attacking the United States (which it would be, he isn't *stupid* you know...) he doesn't have a deployment system...and last I knew customs doesn't allow people to just declare plutonium and head on through...

As I've said, even if Saddam *did* get nuclear weapons he would still be almost zero threat to the States...he doesn't have the technology *or* the money to fund ICBM's, or any means of deployment that would threaten the States...if anything, the US allies in Europe are in the actual direct danger because of their proximity, and with the exception of Israel *they're not concerned*, which to me shows that the threat is almost nill...trust me, if there was a *real* threat I don't think places like Germany would be sitting around not worrying, since they'd be within the actual range of attack.
Saddam isn't a nice guy, don't get me wrong. But the US attacking Iraq would be yet another horrid decision by the Bush administration...they stand to gain nothing other than peace of mind for the paranoid young Bush, and in trade will lower the world-wide opinion of the country even further, and add to the growing ranks of potential terrorist recruits. |

tiesto14 is making more sense than anyone so far in this thread, besides maybe Az's comment (yes, you are correct). What, do you think Saddam is living in a cardboard box starving? Pleeease...hes sitting on billions. He has scores of palaces with enormous pools, indoor streams, and fountains. Fresh food is flown in for him weekly: shrimp, lobster, lean meat, and dairy products. He likes fine wine with his meals, and spends long hours reading every day in whichever office/palace him and his military leaders select for the day. Saddam lives now only to preserve his wealth and power.

by the way, saddam isn't just open to the public for a recon marine to come in and snipe him. saddam has excellent intelligence, driven by fear...and the man himself is extremely intelligent. some of you need to wake the up and smell the roses. if the rest of the world wants to sit on their ass, then go ahead and do so, but i know i dont want my country being blown to and then in the aftermath "well damn, we shouldve done something, but now we're all glowing green with radioactivity."
p.s. - yes, we've established that bush has the IQ of a fly, but none the less...he isnt the only one running this country, and i have faith in colin powell. there's one damn good secretary of defense. |
