Is Rob Ford doing a good job? (pg. 2)

This actually highlights one of Rob's biggest problems. His brother came into city hall gearing to get done that he wanted to do, and because Ford's not good with handling the media, and Doug is incredibly vocal, it's been perceived that Doug is the guy calling the shots.

In reality, I think the media just kept going to Doug because he's a rookie who will routinely stick his foot in his mouth. And it's becoming clear that Doug isn't controlling Rob the way the media has portrayed.

In last month or two, you've seen Rob Ford distance himself from his brother. And they must have had some private talks, because Doug is being much more quiet and much less visible to the public lately.

I think that Rob is doing a fine job. But what gets me are the people that complain that he's "trampling on democracy" while he tries to find these savings to get the city out of the red. I don't remember David Miller hosting a bitch-fest for the citizens at city hall even once during his 2 terms, and in his first year, Rob Ford has hosted 2. He's listened to the most common complaints, and adjusted his plans in response.

Of course, the media will write headlines like "Rob Ford caves, backs off proposed cuts." But what they SHOULD be writing is "Rob Ford listens to critics, adjusts cuts plan." And I think it's really sad just how obvious it is that the mainstream media will take every chance they get to snipe at a guy who was elected on a platform of getting the city back into surplus territory without raising taxes.

Yes, he said he wouldn't be cutting services during the campaign, but how many filthy lying politicians on the left have said they'll get budgets in the black without raising taxes, only to raise taxes the first chance they get (of course, with a bleeding heart, "for the good of the people" excuse).

Orko hit the nail on the head though, there's 3 more years left on Ford's first term, and though there's been a storm already, if, in 3 years time, the city is running a surplus, and the vast majority of Torontonians don't see a discernible decrease in the services that they use, I'd bet the guy will be re-elected.

If he slashes and burns and city services become crippled (as is the hyperbolic fear of those who regularly decry the mayor), the he'll be deemed a failure and Adam Vaughn will be elected (mark my words).

I would love to know what Blair did/said to walk away with a $6 million increase instead of having the $930 million budget slashed by 10%. Maybe he promised to crack down on left-wing nutbars ;)

It was as predictable as anything else Ford does. He loves the cops.

If you call the cops on the CBC camping out in front of your house, you got some issues.

A thoughtful post.

Ford should know better. Ford campaigned on getting Toronto off the gravy train. Also, no services would be cut and taxes would not increase.

Turns out, there was virtually no gravy (saving $10m/year on privet garbage collection isn't a lot of gravy in the face of a $0.9b structural deficit), services will be cut (libraries, TTC, police services, the arts, etc, etc), and taxes will go up. He was a councillor for ten years before he became Mayor. Why didn't he know there was no gravy????? Not only is he breaking promises - he lied during his campaign. Just because they all lie doesn't mean we should not on every m****r f***ing one of them!

In reality, Toronto has elected the Mayor it deserved. Spend as much or more, $0.9b structural deficit, no new revenue, cut some previously existing revenue, and maintain service levels? 47% of Toronto voters don't know how to do a personal monthly budget???? WTF?

what a dick. he gets his business cards printed up by his own company and then charges the city 4x the going rate to print them.

yeah, gravy.
