Forget the business cards, youre telling me my tax dollars pay for a 30k expense account for each councillor? You gotta be ing kidding me. |
paper costs money for one. i'm pretty sure they use that stuff in their job. that or really really expensive business card stock; depends on the councillor. |

$0.06-$0.07 each is not the going rate for decent cards? I actually don't know - I'm curious how you came to this conclusion.... |

Nope, and esp. not in that volume.
Ex. Matlow got his for a little over a penny a card, and he ordered only 3000 cards.
Source? same resource and expense receipts that every councillor is required to submit.
And this quite apart from the illegal practice of not obtaining competitive bids for such purchases, not to mention the lack of transparency in just essentially paying yourself 4x the going rate courtesy of the taxpayers of toronto.
oh wait, didn't he promise greater transparency in addition to this gravy nonsense? yeah, yeah he did....
Anyway, this was news late friday, which is prob why it's not in alot of papers... yet.
I would be very surprised if it wasn't more of a story starting tomorrow. |

You're absolutely right.
I guess the point I was getting at is that when Leftist politicians promise to balance a budget without raising taxes, and then raise taxes. The media hails them as tough decision-makers. But when a politician on the right claims they will balance the budget without cuts, and then cut services, they are vilified.
I would just appreciate some balance from the media, without having to read the Sun, then read the Star, then decide that the truth lies somewhere in the middle. |

but let's not forget that he has also gone on record to say that he will actually raise taxes.
(source: http://www.torontosun.com/2011/07/1...r-on-3-tax-hike)
and there's the rub: he lies both ways - about not cutting services and then about not raising taxes, and perhaps most damningly, the very amount of the deficit(actually a surplus) left to him in the first place.
couple that with a man who has repeatedly lied, cajoled, and shown a profound misunderstanding of the job itself, and people of all stripes have a right to be disappointed and downright furious. |

The deficit being claimed is for 2012, we've known 2011 would be a surplus for a long time now because of the (I think) added revenue from the land transfer tax. I'm actually not aware that Ford has ever claimed 2011 would be a deficit year, but I wasn't paying that much attention to the 2011 budget, because I've always been aware that the large deficit being claimed is for 2012. |

High quality business cards are going to cost between $0.10 to $0.15 per card if you are buying 500. I really don't think the $0.06 to $0.07 per card is overpriced for the quantity being bought. |

most of the Councillors are getting their cards through the city for approximately $0.05 per card. My question would be why does Matlow need 3000 business cards when most Councillors are only getting 500. There are some Councillors who are spending over $0.27 per card. |
