Wow so basically to back up your argument of Aly & Fila being psy trance you refer to a single track played by them (note not one of their production but merely a track played by them) in a set months ago. You also forgot to mention that the rest of the tracks played in that set are the usual cookie cutter stuff hailed by all #trancefamily nerds.
Some serious logic there mate.
Judge Jules once played an Eminem track in one of his sets. Does that make him hip hop gangsta dj? |

I'm not sure what your issue is but my mention of psy-trance was actually off topic to the original theme of the thread. I noted it as an exception of not being true to trance.
You have failed to win your pet argument "aly and fila and psy-trance in the same sentance lol". And have put words in my mouth saying that I think they are a psy group. What I actually said in my opening paragraph is that I think they are keeping it true to trance (with exception).

(Although not keeping it true, I like that they use some mild psychedelic tracks -gives their sets some punch). |
So anyway, who plays "trance" nowadays? |

I don't know how to interpret this quote...

I did say "mild" but they are psy-trance (IMO i guess since everyone has a genre opinion). |
And you also totally failed proving them to be even the slightest psy by refering to that ASOT tracklist. So until hearing that very track in ASOT 500 did you consider them to be psy trance? Or was it that very track in that very set that made them a psy act in your eyes?
I don't want to be a genre bitch but this is ridiculous. |

1. It sounds like psy
2. Alchemy Records is a psy label
3. Sonic Species is a UK psy group
The asot episode had 2-3 psy-like tracks in it. Other sets have a similar # of these kinds of track but this isn't the point (as I've said). Now offer some "real" trance DJ's of continue to fail.
*Edit*
Rereading your post......I'm not saying Aly/Fila is a psy duo. I think this is your misconception (I only said they inject some in their sets) so we can end the flamewar since we are 100% in agreement.
Thank you and have a nice day.

I see where I may have used the wrong words. "THEY" means the 1-2 tracks per set (not aly/fila generally). |

I'd suggest giving the stuff coming from Otographic Arts a chance. Right now from where I'm standing, Japan might not be "bring trance back", but they sure are together with a handful European producers (e.g. Adam Szabo, Orkidea and Airwave), driving the genre forward.
I'm writing this as I'm listening to Hiroyuki ODA - Submarine (Tomoyuki Sakakida Remix), such a great tune. |
Thanks for reminding me of Orkidea, I haven't heard of them since Oakenfold was playing thier remixes in '99.
What are they doing these day? Radio shows, DJ gigs, productions? |

Orkidea is just one guy, he's got a new album out right now. I saw him play a DJ set last month and he's one of the only guys still doing the melodic, uplifting trance sound in an interesting way.
J00F is a given. His label roster who do DJ (Digital Blonde etc.) all play similar stuff to him. I also saw Airwave warm up for him this month and Laurent plays very good stuff, a mixture of darker, progressive stuff and the occasional tastefully executed big anthem.
Simon Berry of Art Of Trance/Union Jack still mixes excellent deep trance on the rare occasions he plays out.
There are countless smaller names that still play real-deal trance, but most people aren't interested in a DJ who doesn't tour internationally. |

| AY STAR |
seen orkidea last week and minus a few random electro vocals he played a very jaytech sounding set and then built it up to some quality proggy trance stuff, very good set no cheese or commecial crap
solarstone is great also
as someone said before j00f is a given ha ha
other dj's i seen who keep it real:
greg downey
activa
iam still waiting to see manuel le saux but i heard great things about him
there are a few other dj's that keep it real
as for big mega star trance dj...pvd can still keep it real even tho hes been kinda hit or miss these days...but out of the big big trance guys he is def better than armin, ferry,a&b.dash berlin etc etc |

Oliver Lieb? I thought he stopped playing trance and now is focusing on techno tracks/sets. |

Really cool, bro. Putting Lieb and MWNN in the same list as Askew and O'Callaghan. |
