The motivation to do pretty much anything at all boils down to sex. We strive for power, money, success, etc. because it makes us more attractive to a mate. |
So (for example) Nou lives in his aunt's basement making video game mods because he believes that will make him attractive to a mate?
:wtf: |

I think that a lot of people aren't aware of the motivations behind a lot of the things they do. Nou's not a real person so he doesn't count. In a way though, yeah he probably is. Making those video game mods is the only thing he's good at. That skill will eventually get him a job, which will possibly lead to his becoming wealthy, thus making him more attractive, desirable, etc.
Some people spend hours in the gym every week to make themselves look better for a mate. Nou makes video games for free.
It obviously doesn't apply to every single person, but think about how strong of a motivational factor sex is. I mean, humans evolved from primates right? Do you think that primates' purpose in life is to eat bananas and make rudimentary tools all day, or do you think it's to procreate and pass on their genes? I don't think it's hard to see that humans wouldn't have just lost that innate urge, especially since doing so would greatly diminish their chances of furthering their species and more specifically their own bloodline. |

Then what are you here for then? Please enlighten me with your knowledge of the entire ing meaning of human existence. |

The meaning of your existence is the one you give it.
While I'm not necessarily here to pass on my genes, I very much like participating in activities that may allow those genes to be passed on. |

Yeah, and you like it because you're programmed to like it.
"The meaning of your existence is the one you give it" is a load of rubbish that humans like to think so they can go on thinking that there is any meaning to their existence. Whether you want to believe it or not, any "meaning" that you think your life has is artificially created by you. Life exists to further itself. It's a universal truth. It's silly to think that humans are special solely for the fact that they can think they're special. |

But if you want to explain the purpose of game mods as "bettering job prospects," one could just as easily say that his ultimate motivation behind them is to make money (I doubt he would agree with that assessment, but whatever).
Now try to account for this example: people who deliberately get a vasectomy or hysterectomy without having had any kids. What is the "evolutionary" motive for their action?

There is none. That still doesn't mean that the innate desire to procreate isn't something that's characteristic of the human species as a whole. It's easier to think about it if you replace "procreate" with "have sex." After all, that is the biological purpose of intercourse. |
