You are such a ing bellend... You have no idea what I am good at lol. :stongue:
Also, relationships with the opposite sex have always been pretty much down on the low end of my priority list. If one spools up with out me having to do a lot of work to establish it, that is cool, otherwise I am content with my hand and spending all day doing what I personally enjoy. I am sure that if I actually put an ounce of effort into going after girls I'd do a lot better, but like I just said, I can't be arsed. :p I like to do my own when I want to and not have to deal with working around someone elses wants or needs. I am a very selfish person I guess. |

There is none. That still doesn't mean that the innate desire to procreate isn't something that's characteristic of the human species. It's easier to think about it if you replace "procreate" with "have sex." After all, that is the biological purpose of intercourse. |
Yeah, people do have a natural desire for sex. But I was not disputing that. I was saying that there are things people do without procreation as the goal. But you have just conceded that point, so cool.

Obviously there are things that people do without procreation as the goal. I'm just saying that as a species, just like any species, the ultimate purpose for the existence of mankind is for the species to continue on. That obviously doesn't mean that every single member of the species must do it, but sex feels good for a reason. Make enough people want to do something that produces offspring, and it will give the species a pretty good chance of survival. |

Sometimes I wonder if sex feels good for every species, though. Among some mammals the norm seems to be for the male to chase down the female and rape her for a few seconds (squirrels, for example).

Life exists to further itself. It's a universal truth. It's silly to think that humans are special solely for the fact that they can think they're special. |
Yet in its simplicity, so many people fail to grasp that the furthering of life and even fertility does not ultimately boil down to constant consumption and reproduction.
There is an entire generation of people living currently who do a well enough job of being the litmus for a healthy species and society, and they do it without directly reproducing. Grandparents and the elderly in general foster the children of children, participating in the human condition by way of transmission of behavioural rites and rituals that in many ways self-perpetuate our survival. The reason for their continued survival beyond prime breeding and biologically competitive years is the direct result of a civilization of cultural, cognitive, and resource abundance. Of course swelling elderly demographics are soon to become a larger and larger issue in the developed world due to social provisions, but in a broader sense, their facilitation is indicative of our general thwarting of catastrophe.
It's absolutely true that sex is a biological imperative seemingly at odds with some peoples free will, but as a transmittable ritual, it's obviously far from black and white, positive plug to negative hole, make a baby, rinse, wash, repeat. Humans have immense industries, commercial and otherwise, to support and respect (in its many variations) the act of sex (in its many variations), because it is such an intrinsic portion of our experience. To say that people removed from the zygotic result, such as post-menopausal women and homosexuals, is shortsightedness in the first degree. |

I'd always read that Chimps have brief and intense sex because of the physical traits of their genitals. They're large and bumpy - each of them - and so stimulate things very, very fast, as they're hanging from trees. Humans, however, have smoother, wetter experiences because they support longer love-making sessions in places of safety, and so then lead to more facilitative, monogamous relationships through the repeated reinforcement of empathetic responses.
Slow and low, just like fish, you know? |
