gah my german roots r pushing me to go. i'm back in school 4 days/week now (one class each day) and the other weekday is the only day i work. i kept weekends clear to have time to have a social life but it's alrdy week 5 of the semester and i find my weekends engulfed w/ chapter summaries and assignments...minus last weekend, igloo's closing.
i highly doubt i'll be able to make it, and i am sincerely gutted because of it :( hopefully he falls in love with stereo and comes back sooner than later :) |

Yes and no. You have to live there to understand. Doesn't compare to montreal. It's not because they book good names and have some festivals that they are catching up. Considering the amount of people in those city, it's not happening all that much. Montreal as a unique configuration that makes it very alive. |

for it's size Montreal is better than any other city in north America with the same population in regards to electronic music. |
Montreal has what, four good sized afterhours (that are all larger than Toronto's even) and Greater Montreal is about 4M?
You can travel all the way from Beach Club to Piknic and all points in between and find edm playing somewhere. all evening and all night. But to sustain four afterhours, that's pretty tough, as ppl have other things to do during those ungodly hours... like sleep :p
But the reach in Montreal is impressive and the parties and festivals are massive and plentiful for a city this size, year-round, even. So many options and it's so spread out sometimes, that it doesn't seem like such a big 'scene' here.
Four million people compared to LA's 18M and NYC's 22M.. think about it. Many would argue that we are still ahead than those cities, in terms of vibe (people+music+venue), in terms of sheer numbers of attendees and in terms of sheer numbers of events going on simultaneously. |

the deep pockets are in those cities, but the passion is in Montreal

I'm not the biggest Liebing fan, but he always brings it live. So, I'll be there for this one on Friday!
And I don't want to hijack this thread, but I want to let you guys know that, if you're looking to go out before heading to Stereo, you should come to Passeport. I will be playing a techno set to get you in the mood for Stereo! In fact, it will be a 100% techno night. PM me for guestlist. |

| Forgive my ignorance, but what are the other 2 afterhours besides Circus and Stereo? |

Don't forget the bikers. A massive force behind the scene, without whom Montreal's afterhours scene would not exist on the scale that it does. People don't like to admit it, but it is reality. |

| Markus Schulz once wrote about how Montrealers dance all night, how BeB was still packed til noon, I wonder why? :p |

dunno if Pharaon exists but there's also Red Lite and where MP3 used to be (or still is), those places are pretty large venues too. |

Montreal has too many parties for its own good. There are too many clubs playing house, too many promoters, too much going on for the amount of people who are truly deeply into the scene.
If I went to every party that interested me I'd be going out 3-4 nights a week. Daome on tuesday, Cherry on Wednesday, UN on friday followed by Stereo, and in the summer I'm going to Piknic followed up by the Daome afterparty. Its retarded.
Highroller brought up a good point, I too am shocked at how so few people know about our afterhours scene, about the 2 quality clubs we have.. then again, the people who go to Piknic and Igloofest and BeB arent necessarily the afterhours type either; but I agree.. promoters should be looking at and targetting the youth.. the dubsteppers who will eventually get tired of it, like I did. |

| It sucks to have that many options to party whenever you want. Don't the promoters know you can't possibly make it to every event? Parties are like university classes, if you miss one you're out of the loop. They're expecting way too much of you. |
