ok so i thought he was great...i wasn't amazed or anything, altho his set up is very sexy...but jesus i dunno how people can deal with that mechanical techno for more than 2 hours (i rly couldn't keep up after haha)...every single track has the exact same formula and thus, sounds the same. i'm sure the kick didn't change for about a half hour. he's a master of his craft, no doubt, but my ears couldn't take it. i got there at 5am, left at 715am.
i wouldn't go outta my way to see him again...i like and fully respect his stuff but there is zero groove, zero soul in what he plays; it's all punchy, relentless sounds without warmth; it's all soooooo ing fast; his sounds triggered zero emotion for me except anger because of the nature of the music haha...
the club was full, about 600-650 i'd guess. the feedback was incredible, people want him back at stereo and i'm sure chris himself wants that too ;) he worked the system nicely altho his highs were too high (that was rectified quickly)...ya, you defo felt that sound system in your chest this morning, woouuuu, intense.
i'll stick with my dettman/klock berghain sounds when it comes to techno, i need my chuggy, slower sounds...i am a house girl after all hehe <3

I agree with you. I love Liebing, but only for 2-3 hours max. He's great to hear at a festival, or at a multi-room venue (or in the mp3 player at the gym), but more than 3 hours of banging techno like that is too much for me.

I really think his techno fits more in a festival then a club, really enjoyed what he was playing 8-11am, danced for 3 hours nonstop. He took it deeper, the first couple of hours were just banging techno and as much as it is bearable I just don't think it fits the room or for the Montreal crowd. The last 3 hours I enjoyed much more.
He got off at 11, and had a solid group of 100ish ppl just grooving away till that time.
Personally out of these 2 weekends I prefer Ben Klock and Marcel music wise, but the venue, just hearing 150000 watts of pounding techno was enough for me, I was sold when Ostrich dropped that dadub track. Couldn't stop moving.
Btw what were you trying to do there ostrich when ur sounds went low and there was this awkward pause???
Some tracks that were dropped, that made a lasting memory.
and so many fkn more but I am too tired still didnt go to sleep.

Okay so now that I woke up I can write up a proper review.
Got to the club around 2:30, with some friends and one guy who has never been to an Afterhours. Around that time people were just coming in and Ostrich was opening. A big smile appeared on my face, because for the first time in a long time I hear a proper techno track in Stereo. Ostrich was warming up nicely, i heard him play t47 - track 5, sounded really really mean with the reverb from the walls, it was slowed down too. A few other nice tracks, I think he played a shifted track i forgot the name. Place was slowly filling up. The place was filling up and the music was getting better. Honestly my favorite part was when you dropped a dadub track.. Man does that sound good in that room, definitely busted a move for that one. If not for that pause I think the warm up would have been great.
Around 5:30 with the anxious anticipation of the crowd Liebing finally came on the decks. You could clearly hear the change cause he raised up the volume and layed it on thick with a big break. People were yelling out his name and the energy was in the room, I would say the first half an hour to an hour people were fairly receptive to his pounding techno, but he proceeded to speed it up and Erika has it right the bassline really didn't change much for 2 hours. He has mixing 2-3 tracks at a time and just dropping it, drop after drop with maschine effects. Sure the drops were nasty but even personally I think the volume might have been a bit too high because the bass from the speakers was already getting slightly distorted. Sure the whole room was filled with it but the tracks were not sounding as clear cause he was pushing it.
The other thing is that the crowd was getting less receptive of the breaks, it was in fact pretty repetitive, and as much as you can enjoy this kind of techno, there has to be some variety in the breaks. Sure if you all ed up it can be fun but not for too long. So after around 7 am you could see some people part. Still a good 500 people at the club. I would say around 8 am he has changed up a bit and actually started playing the basslines of the actual tracks. After about 8 am I was really enjoying his set, as were the rest of the people. I would say about about 100 people stayed till the end at 11, and all of us were grooving it away. Really enjoyed this piece, even though it pounding techno.
Also this remix really hit the spot
Overall it was a really great night. Probably my best night at Stereo.
Music was about 7/10 first 2 hours of Liebing
and 8/10 the last 3 hours.
But hearing techno at stereo was priceless. Honestly it just wasn't the same when i went to Stereo on other nights. Not even comparable.
Vibe 8/10
Techno @ Stereo 10/10 please do this more often Stereo.
And last but not least, the fanboy I am I asked liebing to play the regis remix of t47
Was the 2nd last track he played.
Walked out at 11am with the biggest smile on my face, happy :) Back to my thread for the next however many months...
Another few big ones i remembered
