Theres a ton of info in the dj booth forum.
Nowadays... Ableton or Traktor and a decent controller/mixer. Unless turntablism is something youre aspiring to learn.

1. Go to DJ Booth forum
2. What is your budget? What kind of DJing do you want to do?

remember to follow this in-depth tutorial on how to mix after you get your gear

-1.
Get a pair of decks and a mixer (eg Pioneer stuff) and learn how to DJ properly.

Better yet, get some vinyl decks and learn how to dj properly...
DO NOT BUY CDJ's until you're 100% sure you like it.

Traktor S2 is on sale now - for basically $500 incl taxes you get the best DJ software and a great controller / mixer combo.
I'm glad I learned on CD-J's (200's and 800's) but if I were starting out today you better believe I go the way of digital..

If you are unsure whether to go with Tratkor/midi controllers, or CDJ's, I suggest an all in one.
I have a Numark Mixdeck, and I find it gets the job done for me. Bought it from a friend, who used it with Traktor, although I prefer to use them as CDJ's, or with a USB stick.
Mixdecks seem to be fairly common on Kijiji, and craiglist, likely due to the fact many people probably bought a Mixdeck at Futureshop, then realized they can't mix, etc :stongue:
What I would not suggest is going all out and loading up with Pioneers, etc. What happens if you find it isn't for you?

That's what I use for gigs (and love it) -- but if you go that route you'll need to also purchase a mixer

srsly. I don't mind that a lot of DJs are going digital, but I think every DJ should learn how to DJ the old school way first.
