Replaygain is the answer if you're unsatisfied. I never used it...but, it depends a lot on the source of the recording/riping as well. Some albums sound , other sounds magnificent (on my set up).

I also own the Sennheiser HD 25 MKII and the Pionner HDJ-1000 and they didn't require any higher equipment for them to be driven. The HD 650 are a different story though. My rule of thumb is to concentrate on the entire set-up, starting with the DAC/AMP whatever.

Trance sounds great on my setup, at least.

EDIT: The HD 650 are more monitor-esque, reason to why many people in EDM don't like them and prefer enhanced sounds from other types of headphones.

The Pionner HDJ-1000 is worst of cans i ever owned. The HD 25 on the other hand is in a different light.

The claim about the plastic/accoustics may be accurate and believable, but still subjective to their testing, etc. Have you listened to some of the headphones with proper source that they praise? They even pretty universally have praised $30 cans...i.e. the Panasonic HTF600s. Or the HTF890s ($40) which are touted to being really close with the Audio Technica AD700 open cans, which are widely used for gaming b/c of their amazing soundstage....still only $120 or so.

Obviously people who spend over $1000 are a little elitist or prioritize their listening experience pretty high, but don't act like their entitled anything anywhere near what I've seen from this board in just a couple days. Like most things, you get what you pay for...and in the case of a $1000 headphone, you're paying for the highest end of product that research has come up with...and obviously people with the means and that level of analysis and scrutiny get what they pay for. What's clear through side by side comparison by many is that you're getting mostly looks, the fashion statement, and advertisement and endorsement by dr. dre............ anyone should be able to admit that, I would think.

also i read that the elements inside the like the ear speakers have been dipped in gold and titanium baths to more accurately represent alot of the hertzes on the scale than for lets say hmm.. sennheiser? and what about pioneer? no, none of them do it, and thats why they will be left in the dirt by the revolutionary sound of the beats by dre.

that is true. they are the most hated cans on the net though because they carry the "dre" brand. there is only one thing wrong with them, and thats that they come in white, that's just racist.
