The Beats by Dre make any song sound fantastic. That's why they're so good to produce on.

Thats the exact opposite of what you want when you're producing. Just because it sounds amazing on your headphones doesn't necessarily mean it'll sound good or even great on a club system.

I stand by my Sennheiser HD-25-IIs, they are light weight, super comfortable, the highs are absolutely crystal clear, the bass is lacking but IMO thats a good thing because they don't tire you out, the isolation is amazing too. Oh and my aunt also works for Sennheiser so I got em for $125 :D

My ambition:

Denon D5000.
Comfort and versatility.
Thought about the pros900 for a while but comfort really comes first when it come to headphones imo.

The Beats sucks (and i need to sell them at my job :) )

i am curious about sennheiser's orpheus it's like dr beats but led to a crazy level, surely it's a stupid investment as with ~15,000$ you can buy a car or even a flat in some countries. Ridiculous.

Paying more than $200 for headphones is absolutely pointless.

it's pointless buying any more expensive headphones than $200? How about the Beyerdynamic DT880 pro that i just got new for $212 after price match from online site and 10% off difference at guitar center? These retail over $300 and have absolutely wonderful detail/balance/sound stage/tone, etc.. just read how reviews and see how many people call them nearly the best headphone. :)

anyway, i'm glad there are some audiophiles in here (audiophile wannabe's count)...better than being a skeptic who'll never know what they're missing or paying too much for :o

one last time, it's not necessarily about how expensive they are. members of head-fi have been praising how the $100 (on sale now for $55 at amazon) Creative Aurvana Live! headphones sound. They also point out that these headphones have the exact same driver that the Denon 1001 used (discontinued), was favorably reviewed, and sold for 2x the price of the "CALS!". Lotsa people vouching for $30-$40 panasonics, a huge following for $80-140 headphones like grado sr60 or audio technica ath-m50

I don't even think you can get the Orpheus anymore, not new at least. Most of the money is about the AMP that comes with them. Rather, get the HD 800 if your pocket allows it and you don't listen to Youtube.

If you're into top notch, get the Stax SR-009. These are probably the best headphones on the market atm. If you have 6000$ to pitch out. And another 6000$ for the necessary amp to run them.

And I guarantee there are $150 sets out there which you wouldn't be able to tell any discernable difference from your $200+ pair.

hahaha beats by dre are awful.

well to clarify for their price they are terrible. Most people will only have experience with ipod earphones so an upgrade to beats will be generally be "amazing".

the person claiming you cant tell the difference between mid priced headphones is speaking out of his arse to put it nicely.

Anyway i use beyer dynamic dt 990 600ohm version. really great for all the music i listen to. very comfortable and lightweight though you will need an amp to get the most out of them.
