Audiophiles: what's the BEST headphones for TRANCE.

this has been discussed by forums such as head-fi.org. There is a general consensus that Ultrasone headphones are THE best for trance/electronic music.

What does the trancecommunity think.. did you do a lot of comparisons/research? if you didn't, i think you owe it to your ears and the music..

I'm currently looking at getting the Ultrasone Hfi 580 or DJ1 with s-logic. might go with the Pro 550, as well. Probably limited to the $150 range right now. I've read the ultrasone Pro series is better...such as the Pro 750... and 900. but those are like $300+

still a small price to pay for hours and hours of the best listening experience of the best type of music on EARTH.

currently using in-ear monitors Ultimate Ears TripleFi 10 which are fantastic for trance. Extremely clear separated instruments. really fast and clean mids and highs. a little light on the bass, but perfectly fine with comply ear foams.. They retail for $400 (worth every penny), but they have gone on sale for like $100 for Black Friday on amazon.com. (or cyber monday)

wanting to get a headphone that has a wide soundstage.. usually this isn't possible without the headphones being the OPEN kind (not closed back), where people around you can hear the music you're playing. In a closed can (headphones), the sound bounces around and resonates inside the chamber.. A more natural sound like being at the concert or listening to the music on a stage can be achieved with open headphones. It's also kinda nice because you can hear if the wife calls, etc :) the only benefit to that would be her not getting mad at you

dr dre beats, quality stuff but a bit expensive

yeah i just bought mine

no offense intended, but i can assure you not only are those overpriced for what they are (they are decent), but they're no way near the best for trance.

if you don't believe me, i hope you'll experience one day what a difference a proper set of headphones can make to how your music sounds.

i can't say for all dr. dre beats, but in general they tend to be on the bassier side. they aren't known to be very clear/fast for mids/highs... I believe you're missing quite a bit of detail with the beats. Sure, they are pretty and I wouldn't be embarrassed walking around with those on, but I think a tranceaddict deserves better sound

i'm no hardcore audiophile, but this much i *think* i know :)

again, i don't mean any disrespect, but there is a world of better high end headphone companies out there. the likes of Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic, Denon, Audio Technica, Ultrasone, Grado, etc. Of course each have a wide range of quality and sound signature, but for the money you're gonna get way more with brands other than monster dr. dre beats.. not to mention Monster cable is NOTORIOUS for being overpriced..

burn a toast newb i was just helped when it comes to headphones and beats by dre are the ones to get. Great for beatmatching

Dr dre supports 5hz and 25,000khz+ thats cool, trance has a lot of 25,000khz content.

Oh and they are pretty thats very important for a trance listener, remember trance used to be cool but now has downranked in the dj poll, wearing sennheiser or ultrasone might be embarrasing if your friends use skullcandy.

don't want to argue with you.. i know there has to be some real audiophiles in here. Ignorance is bliss, I guess....but when it comes to hifi headphones and trance, i think you owe it to yourself to look deeper than what's popular b/c of advertising/looks...

the guys in this forum really know what they're talking about. i'm hoping the trance community as a whole isn't one that is satisfied with listening to the greatest genre of music with sub-optimal headphones...

it's not really about the range of frequency that the headphone supports...it's about sound signature/quality and detail, detail, detail.

i could care less about how the headphones look on my head--i care about the sound, not how fashionable they look...

i listen mostly to 128kbps encoded mp3s or less so the plugs i got in the chinese shop are fine enough

Audiofiles don't listen to trance you knob

Meh, since you're not biting:

If all you're going to listen to is trance I suppose you might as well go for closed cans with lots of bass. I have open cans and although the sound is more crisp which is fine for me since i mostly listen to ambient and electronica, I will admit trance loses a lot of it's punch on them. It rather depends on your preferences i suppose, just try some of them out rather then trying to get some meaningless audiophile sign of approval to justify your purchase.

That's very cool as I thought most people can't hear frequencies that high :conf: ,especially after visiting clubs weekly for many years.
