personally I think its awesome that Beatport is doing something like this. But, I do see your point. If it was supposed to be "exclusive" and here we are posting invites in the forum, then I see where you're coming from. Oh well, someone hooked me up with an invite and I decided to return the favour. Anyone wanting to be on there should be on there.

(if that's what you meant about " hitting the fan")

The chartmaking function is pretty legit. It'd be awesome if they gave chartmakers commission based on if tracks are crated from the chart page, but I can see how that could be exploited.

I'd have preferred to see this platform being for people that are on Beatport only. This platform being open doesn't really makes sense when Beatport is removing labels/artists that underperform to their standards. I don't see how a Beatport dj profile for the entire world would add to the value of having one of those pages.

Other than that I'd like to see profile pictures being adopted to the Beatport webshop. Although that might be abused (for promotion - or ruining other artists since dj-profiles aren't cross checked with de BP webshop to see if their actually that person), it could just as much enhance their shop.

So BP wants to get into social networking. Cool, like we didn't see that coming

considering the current standing of beatport in the EDM scene, i beleive they will be a BIG deal in the future.

i agree...but im pretty sure whats what beatports been intending to do..

especially by creating these profiles, thats hella promo to them AND they are an online store that is the biggest online store for EDM and now they even have hip hop and stuff.

goodbye itunes. good game.

(of course over about 5-10 years)

Biggest online seller of EDM ? Not even close. Itunes sells so much more. The second a track is popular, itunes makes the sale. Beatport is only relevant top djs and small underground releases.

Beatport could be big nut they are not going to beat itunes. They will need to find a way to incorporate it because hate it or love it, people use itunes. They have a monopoly on digital music. Beatport needs to do some serious inventory control. There is just too much that would not interest the average person. Even the dj charts , they are artificial and until Beatport ends this payola especially when it is so ing obvious with some of the you hear on the charts, people will find browsing it so ing annoying and will be discouraged. If beatport was smart , they would act like an actual label and sell it all on itunes. I mean just go thru the top 100 list, there are only ever 5-10 tracks , normal people would buy. They would take all their inventory, hire people to prune the , and make a selection of music that doesn't suck.

And until beatport limits the , they will never entice the average joe to buy from there. Because anything good, well you can get it on itunes, so what is the point. There is stuff that you can't , but nobody makes it accessible for the average person ie , the tracks in podcasts that nobody names so it is pointless really.

Perhaps if beatport started clamping down on djs, ie , if you make a podcast, it has to be affiliated to to beatport so that the listener will know which track is playing at any given time and can be directed to itunes with the click of the button. That would be a big step. It not only helps sales but will also force djs to buy so that is a win win. Beatport can have different versions, a dj portal , a portal for normal people and the content is adjusted accordingly so that the normal person does not have to suffer that ty progressive house that nobody in their right mind would ever buy except djs that think its cool because nobody is playing it.

Basically,, until beatport understands the average person, they will never be a contender. I don't know if they want to as it seems they are not trying to be anything other than a store for djs.

I mean just going to beatport, it takes 5 seconds to see how this will just annoy the average person. It is too dj oriented. I mean genres ? most people have no ing idea what that is. They don't know the djs except maybe like the top 5. Basically, you can't sell to djs the same way you sell to the layman.

i agree with what youre saying, but the future is known by no one.

hoesntly my prediction is that Itunes will fall off, all Apple fanboys may deny this fate, but i guarantee it will happen. Soundcloud is picking up quite a huge audience of listeners and music purchasers as of recent, i deal with alot of people on the regular so i see how the public is responding to it. they like that they can follow their friends music as well as well known people all together from one place, and as well share the most obscene things like cat noises. Think youtube, but for strctly music and sound, coupled with the ability to purchase it on demand.

it may take some time but this is how i see things will happen. u may think im crazy but if it happens then all the sudden i will be a genius:

Soundcloud will take over iTunes for listeners and people who want to buy music as it already is doing for artists. It's already starting to happen. Considering that EDM is now the new "in" thing - wheres a better place to find it than on Soundcloud and Beatport? Not iTunes. Apple will fall. Honestly iTunes is great for pop culture...but because pop culture and edm culture are starting to collide more and more - wheres a good place to find both pop culture AND edm culture? ding! Soundcloud. Now where do almost all EDM artists try to sell their music from? ding! Beatport. No one pushes iTunes. Majority of EDM artist push Soundcloud and Beatport, and EDM is taking over the world currently.

So do you see where this is going? Its only a matter of time. Things are changing.

Maybe you will think im crazy for saying this, but hell, no one knows what the future has in store (this is only my own speculation) and Apple wont be on top of its game forever, that is only wishful thinking for apple fanboys.

These beatport dj pages push soundcloud players and hopefully in the future mixcloud players, as well as charts and the ability to buy music obviously. many people will get one and push beatport, it doesnt matter how inconvenint it is for people, in the end if thats where everyones at, thats where everyone will go. think FACEBOOK. prime example. they always change , but people do have the ability to adapt. because everyone hates it, but everyone loves it too and its hard to do keep up with things without it. Beatport is just trying to do the same thing with music and this is a major step to making it happen. the game changes now :)
