i tunes is already going to a subscription based format that will pretty much end piracy. The only competition is google, and itunes will not let that happen. Itunes will eventually have all you can eat, 10$ a year. The problem with google, well from what i've noticed with android, i have this sony tablet, is that things just aren't synchronized as well. IT is harder to buy.

It isn't that i like that, it is that they not only have a head start, they have the capital, they are doing well and google, despite having more potential, i mean even just android apps, they don't sell.

But everything in the long run is up for grabs. The winner will be the one the incorporates as many social outlets as they can.

The best music has never been easy to come by or accessible without effort, I doubt that will ever change.

beatport is 99% stuff , nobody would ever buy. That makes it just a little bit harder.

i'd like to know how many tracks were released and got 0 sales, to be honest i believe this happens rarely there is always someone that likes your crap. Try to upload something really really y to your soundcloud and you'll get some downloads, there's a difference between free & bought but some people wouldn't mind spending a dollar take it for granted.

I see when people add to favourites tracks by Deadmau5 that are 30 seconds long and is joke stuff, or download that stem, and it's not a few persons, i am talking of thousands sometimes.

Look

But yeah, finding good music is and will be hard, good for the djs as it is a way to stand out from the rest, bad for the general customer which will be blowed up by the .

and another shindig,

Ableton is pushing Soundcloud now too. people are starting to slowly cease to push itunes and starting to push soundcloud really hard.

in my opinon the itunes market will slowly start to disappear over the next 2-3 decades.

In Ableton 8.3 the new update that was just released yesterday they included a "upload to soundcloud" link in the "export audio/video" function..

Truth..

A social music platform is not the same market as selling digital downloads. I think they would more likely complement eachother than outcompete eachother. They're both aiming for a completely different demographic. Soundcloud is closer to Myspace (minus the potential to have a significant reach beyond the serious music enthusiasts,dj's and producers) than it is to iTunes. I don't know when and how iTunes will start to fade into history, but I would safely bet my money on it that it won't be because of Soundcloud.

the only competitor to itunes, and that is potential, is google. Beatport is nothing, will be nothing unless it stops focusing on EDM solely and gets major financial backing. Without that , it will continue to be nothing. You guys don't see to get how irrelevant beatport is.

Itunes is not going to stop being the number digital download provider for a long ing time. And given that their entire company is shifting towards mobile , itunes will play a bigger part. So expect them to invest as much as they need to so that no other provider comes even close. And given EDM's popularity in the last year or so, they are looking at beatport right now and wondering if it is worth the effort at this point in time to get exclusive deals with all the big labels. They can afford to. Beatport can't.

Itunes will operate at a loss just to be number 1. The value of itunes is not in the sales.
