You may not have necessarily deserved such a hastily contemptuous response but you've failed to understand that the people you're dismissing, as a result of that response, have legitimate reasons behind it. You're neither the first to do so nor have you even made the best proposal for fixing the industry.

You are, in fact, at the end of a long line of people to post complaints about what are essentially its mainstream ambitions. It's an easy thing to be upset with if that's the only thing you see. Fortunately, Beatport, Mixmag, and AM Only aren't the only purveyors of EDM. They may hold a record level of influence but focusing on that very narrow window of dysfunction is, itself, myopic. You do so to the exclusion of a larger portion that isn't dysfunctional and likely has what you're looking for. Why try to change something that is constructed to resist change when what you're trying to change it to, already exists; and in enough abundance to negate the reasons for your cause to begin with?

Interesting point re the vote for the worst one. Although I suspect she was still a far better singer than Paris is a DJ, and therefore the risk of this turning into a Frankenstein's monster seems negligible.

Not really my point. The point is that nothing significant really happened. Howard Stern has always been related to mainstream media conglomerations and is hardly anyone who is qualified over anyone else to judge good taste. He was just doing what he did to get attention.

A very lengthy and well thought out post, which deserves equal consideration. However I'm not willing to give full disclosure at this point. If you would be so kind in spite of this to humour me, in answering the following hypothetical, I would be most obliged:

If you could break the DJ Mag strangle hold, would the benefits outweigh the cons?

nothing is going to change, if Paris Hilton is nº1 guetta is going to be nº2, the credibility of the poll will go down but there is still credibility?

And in an eventual case any "less a sucker dj" like Richie Hawtin scores top 1 do you think anything is going to change?¿ People in general doesn't like techno David Guetta still will be the most booked guy (and if you don't see him in your city it's because his damn big cache, something ridiculous because 90% of the people on the dj booth forum could do his job.

It would be funny to see PH on the dj mag but thats it funny not useful.

He's saying you should stop giving about polls and choose the parties you go to better.

Jesus, being an intellectual giant must suck.

DJ Mag doesn't have a "stranglehold" on .

In the time you are spending putting up a website and advertising it on forums and arguing with people about it, you could be doing things that are both more fun for you and better for the music. Like, I don't know, focusing on the DJs you like and supporting them, or discovering great new artists and telling people about their tracks, rather than whining about how the DJs you don't like supposedly have a "lock" on "the scene" via some irrelevant DJ Mag poll.

Last I heard about it it was still the industry reference guide. Maybe strangle hold was a poorly chosen turn of phrase, but it is still the leading poll - by a mile as far as I'm aware.

What is it with telling me to go to parties? I was at a 2 day beach festival in Amsterdam the weekend before last. And telling people about tracks? I run a 330 capacity trance group on fb, and have done for 18 months. Don't be so quick to assume things.

a 330 capacity facebook page :haha:.

Even at a small local night that would be a massive failure.

If you are letting it guide you, you are a sheep and will continue to miss out on the good stuff. If you want to pick up a magazine so it can do the work fine, but as someone who knows a thing or 2 and has forgotten more about music than you will ever know....if you were half as passionate about digging deeper and finding the good stuff as you are with trying to defend yourself while amazingly and unwittingly showing everyone just how little you knowthis thread would never had been made.Yet you are throwing around a bunch of inane nonsense like you truly believe you will educate a user base that would never make a 16 year old tiger beat chick thread like this because they dwarf you musically and aren't a lazy prick.

Something else would take its place that would be just as bad or worse. In order to have the desired effect, you'd have to dismantle a lot of concerns that, by virtue of the way they conduct business, have contributed to the influence of the DJ Mag poll. You're talking about chopping off one tentacle from a swarm of squid. The net gain is hardly worth the undertaking.

After 8 pages i think everything arguably it's already argued. Please leave.

Actually the subject of the sentence is "calculations", and the subject of the clause is "capacitor". If you're going to use pedantry to belittle someone, at least get it right.

Only to the uplifting trance scene, as I've already told you. Nobody in the techno scene cares, nobody in the house scene, the drum 'n bass scene, the breaks scene, the psy scene, and most certainly nobody in any "underground" scene. The only people who care about the DJ Mag rankings exist entirely in a commercial sphere where they are looking to book The Biggest Name, and the DJ Mag poll is merely an extremely exploitable measure of popularity. Even if you discredit the DJ Mag poll, these promoters and listeners will still only be interested in the biggest, most accessible names around. The only downside will be a lot of DJs who've used vote-rigging or oppressive canvassing to artificially inflate their standings will start making a lot less money. It doesn't mean a load of underground music will suddenly fill the gap.

And names like Armin and Oakenfold are not underground in any form, no matter how much you might like them. Both have been known to use the most aggressive marketing tactics around to bolster their own commercial profile. You basically have no real perspective on the scene you're trying to save. Lord alone knows what you think "underground" means.
