Honestly, I have no idea about any of the names on this tracklist either. As much as I enjoy drum 'n bass, I don't keep up with big names or podcasts, visit websites or even go to the relevant parties very often. Consequently, the only names I didn't discover on Beatport in the process of making this mix are Metrik (because James Zabiela has been closing his sets with a Metrik remix), Funk D'Void (a remix anyway) and Bill Hamel, who I presume is the progressive house producer of the same name. I have no idea if these tracks are popular or obscure, or even exactly how new or old most of them are. This was a case of simply trawling Beatport until I found tracks I liked the sound of and that fitted my requirements, and then cross-referencing the out of them to find similar material.

Glad you enjoyed it anyway.

Yeah! Finally a brand new DnB mix, Jack. Grabbing this right now.

I wish I could say it was a dark stormy night when I downloaded this set, but it hasn't rained for months, and it probably won't rain for another 30 days. All I could hear was the buzzing sound from the air conditioner... and the sound of a pounding heart beating in anticipation. What does this mix sound like? Is this... it?

Today I promised myself I would go and run on Brasilia's largest avenue, consisting of six 20-kilometre-long lanes without a single traffic light and packed with hundreds of cars every minute clocking around 80 kilometres per hour. I'd go jog on this avenue with nothing but my running gear, my courage, and my gigantic pair of headphones. And there I went, as I pressed the "play button" on my iPod. My right foot would touch the asphalt in sync with the snare drum... which is kind of tricky when you're listening to drum'n'bass, and it made me wish I was shorter. But every step felt like I was kicking the planet back with all the power given to me by this set. I was Chuck Norris, and planet Earth was an unhinged robot on the verge of destroying itself after it reached singularity. I wouldn't let that happen.

And then I saw it. The avenue. I charged at full speed and leaped on the central lane... which was totally fine because today is Independence day and the road was closed. It felt so - apocalyptic! No cars, no noise, no nothing. Just the sunset behind me and the growling bassline reminding me that at any moment Skynet could be chasing me. Or a drunk driver. Either way, I'd better run. And run I did.

I felt I had become one of the music, kicking ass every single time I stomped the ground. I may have crushed a can or two, but it was just me flowing with the set, destroying anything that looked remotely hi-tech. Or shiny. Or canny. Because the singularity is uncanny.

It was an hour full of awesome. And for that, I'm grateful. This set kicked more ass than I dropped sweat along the way. And I got home really wet. For more than one reason.

Yeah!

How did I not know about this?

Downloading.

Really solid mix. A lot more fun than your other DNB mixes imo. Plenty of times where I felt like the track was constantly starting, revving and gunning a big beefy motorcycle :p

High energy, fantastic mixing, and great track selection. Probably one of your best mixes ever. This has been a good year for you, your trance mix was bomb and this one was even better. Dark, energetic, high-speed DNB/neurofunk for the soul. I'll listen to this again. Nice job, Jack.

Thanks man. I had a feeling it would be right up your street. I agree that it's one of my strongest mixes, definitely a lot of fun (and good workout music, it seems). I think much of that comes from the sheer quality of drum 'n bass music out there - there were so many other tracks and artists I had to leave out, and that was simply from a few days of searching.

Looks interesting, the only names on there that are familiar to me are AK1200 and Bill Hamel, the latter from progressive house of course. I love the atmospheric D&B you do, but the more hard-hitting, peak-time stuff doesn't have much representation on TA. Can I get a permalink please?

BTW you ever hear this album?

Really loved it back in the day (one of my first non-Bukem D&B mixes) and I'm wondering if your mix has similar vibes. Guess I'll find out soon enough...

Sure, Jack.

have to say,

to just dive in and make a mix of something you don't know is commendable. This is what a dj should be. Someone that loves music. Great work. I am pretty well versed in neurofunk and this type of music and I didn't feel like you were just playing how do you say , the chart top 20.

More people should follow this example.

You should do a project . Do a mix for as many genres as you can money and time withstanding.

Anyways, you should be proud of this. Loved it.
