Interesting news. I always love a respectful and educated political conversation, and this piece of news is all over the place second only to the TIFF highlights, lets see how you all feel on this one....

It's a very curious decision to say the least, and rather caught me off guard. There is some sort of diplomatic play not being told to the public here, because withdrawing diplomatic mission is a huge move, not something taken lightly. (Or Canada is still pissed off about Hazemi case)

Could be that, plus also back in 2011 a movie called Iranium really upset Iran and Iran asked the government of Canada not to show the movie. Canada complied until Canadians and others were like, why the hell you listening to Iran, please show the "documentary" (Link)
Either way it is a hard issue to say yes or no. If you say "yes" you will be branded like a pro-Zionist / Israeli supporter and if you say "no" you will be considered a pro-Iranian regime supporter. like this is complicated. Thankfully I legally can not enter Iran, so it isn't an issue for me trying to go to the Embassy. Plus Canada will feed you to the wolves if you do something wrong in another nation (i.e they wont really try to get you out of prison)

I don't believe the following comment by John Baird is accurate: "...the government of Iran [is] the most significant threat to global peace and security in the world today..."

Harper is a piece of and a puppet to the U.S. and Israel. How did Iran become so dangerous now? Did they even think about the Iranian Canadians in this country who travel back to Iran to see their families all the time? How is Iran the biggest threat to Canada?

The same can be said about Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Ayatollah Khomeini, Bibi, Obama and the list goes on and on.

Interesting. An Iranian already posted in this thread and had three simple words to comment.....war is comin.
I hope not, war is good for nobody except the wealthy who will never see a front line in their lives. I have no shame in saying when I heard this news yesterday, it gave me a bit of a shake. I too believe there is some diplomatic game playing taking place that is not being disclosed to the public. Is Canada a close ally of the US, very much so, and it is no secret at all that this is an election year for the US so it is conceivable to argue that they are somehow involved, but who else is?
This seemed to be unprovoked and made in haste, but I believe Iran is not without total fault. They do hit the bee's nest by making public anti-Isreali comments and that just give the Western countries ammunition and justification for military action in the future.
Personally, I wouldn't fight in a war for this reason. Israel is not Canada and I wouldn't shed blood for a country I will most likely never visit let alone live in.

People have got to start learning about what is about to happen here. We are being fed with lies just like Iraq.

All this is imo is more American ballwashing by Harper. F-35s, Canadian/US Border Pact, push for privatised healthcare (a la letting American companies come rape our wallets), stance on oil sands, mass deregulation etc etc are all examples of how he's put sucking up to them above us and our interests as a priority. He hasn't consulted the public or even parliament on all these moves and this embassy thing is no different. It's the first time in my life there's been a political leadership in Canada where you hear no mention, no debate, or nothing leading up to large decisions being made and unfortunately we have 3 more years of it.
The closing of the embassy does nothing at all to improve the overall situation nor does it benefit Canadians. The only hope in making grounds without a war would be dialogue with negotiations and this is a huge step away from that. Ultimately it's just another move that alters the future path of the country just to make the States look a tad more justified in the world view. It's amazing how as a nation we've gone from a world view of environmental protecting peace keepers in the 90s to a level of warmongering on par with the States and the worst per capita polluters in the world.

Absolutely not, it's by far our neighbours to the south. You don't spend more than the rest of the world combined on military in the name of peace:
Also, you don't need to read through many of the leaked cables from WikiLeaks to see that what they tell the public is far from what they actually do. Their current "War on Terror" is only creating many more terrorists than the world has ever seen. Protip: Iraqis and Afghans with dead parents or missing limbs don't play nice when they're adults in 10+ years.
