Richard, it is a question of opportunity cost.
This isn't about a genre. This is about an artist in his genre that is so bad that he sticks out like a sore thumb. And your rock analogy is awful. Rock musicians were rather good. Put it this way, he is like Lars Ulrich on drums except that he didn't have a producer to program the drums basically doing everything over to make it sound acceptable.
And if you found him engaging, well you have the personality of a gnat. he has no personality, no enthusiasm and all that could be forgiven , even the stupid hat, if his work somehow was stellar.
I struggle to understand what it is you are seeing. Is this some sort of unconscious acceptance of ones own limited ability or just a case of inexperienced untalented musicians with extremely bad taste resonating with say how Americans seem to resonate with 2 and 1/2 men.
That is basically what avicii is. 2 and a half men. Popular but inexplicable other than the fact there are enough mongs to provided a listening base. The sad part is that there are people here among them. I could forgive a child. even a teenage. But if you are over 18 and like Avicii, i would probably leave anything regarding taste to your girlfriend. |
Ever met him in person? I have. He was a nice guy.
It was shortly after the this future music video was made. I asked "Isnt mixing into a limiter a bad production technique". Looking back I sounded like a dick but he gave a good argument. He uses it to keep his workflow going then goes back and mixes it properly. I have to agree that when I try to do arrangement and sound design with mixing I get stuck in my tracks.
His melodies are catchy and his stuff is not that poorly mixed. Richard also makes a good point, if its so easy you go do it... |

And if you think being lazy is a virtue, then there is no point in arguing. Not being lazy does not mean doing annoying complextro that has sounds that don't seem to have any raison d'etre except it sounds really complicated.
I will say that if you use this sort of production as inspiration, i mean you are really aiming lo and it is unfortunate because there is music i think deserves more merit especially if you are a producer. As someone that goes to clubs, what ever. But honestly, it is depressing that producers find this acceptable. |
It makes me laugh to myself that Avicii and that french kid just slap a track in a few hours and people go nuts for it. |

Because it isn't easy. It take a special mind to manage to find a special formula of that people will somehow find appealing and commit to that and deal with the fact that you are spending time making that . How does one justify any sort of rape.
Think about writing for the show 21/2 men. That is undeniably awful but to write like that, is to think like that or be able to put your self in the shoes of a white trash inbred trailer rentee and channel that void.
Yes it takes a special talent to be that bad. Just like it takes a special person to wear a raccoon tail in public but i saw someone. I could never do that. Some would call it integrity. Maybe i'm not free spirited enough.
And i never questioned if he was nice. he is boring. he is the last person i would want at my party. |

he doesn't. That interview isn't real time. He obviously had it sorted before the camera man shows up. It shows nothing of his process. Only highlights how ing lazy he is and how utterly uninspiring someone can be. |

I can understand why a load of chemically enhanced morons can enjoy it, I do get the celebration of noise dynamic.
I don't understand how anybody that's interested in listening to and making quality music can think it's good on any level though. Perhaps you should use it as a measuring stick of your own ability. If you think it's musically or technically good, then just go back to listening only.
It really is kids music masquerading as real music and popularity is no measure of quality. |

Wow, your argument is just full of fallacies and aren't helping your case here. Frankly you guys here defending him need to dig for, listen and study more music, you might then get a better perspective of where these attacks are coming from. |

Avicii also went out to some club in Melbourne and used his Iphone to DJ off of. People loathed it. Especially on a one of those Turbo Sound Systems that costs $100k. |

| Avicii sucks, his productions are the most lame sounding noises ever to be recorded. |
