Well-regarded movies you can't get into

Tonight I tried watching The Avengers. 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, hadn't heard a bad word about it from anyone (and lots of the opposite), so why not?
I turned it off after forty minutes or so. Bland action, CGI overload, flat dialogue, villain annoying more than menacing or interesting. Didn't get the hype at all. It would have to get a lot better as it goes on for me to say it was good. Not sure I want to spend the rest of two hours and twenty-two minutes betting on that...
What are some well-regarded movies where you just don't get the hype? |

im a huge fan of mob movies, shows, etc
but i could never get into the godfather
tried watching it multiple times and have never gotten through it |

| The only movie I couldn't get into was when I went to see Boondock Saints, but I'd forgotten my fake id at home, so no R-rated movie for that 15 year old :( |

| In the same vein (I think?) as The Avengers, I fell asleep during both Iron Man movies. I made it through the 2nd one at some later date, but it was still scarcely memorable. Maybe people really into Whedon really dug The Avengers, but I found Firefly and Serenity to be ghastly uninteresting (Alien Resurrection, too, but it had the best premise (gah) of those I've listed). |
