why does everyone hate hte prequels so much?> honestly the worst thing about them is episode one and jar jar binx

otherwise.. not that bad all things considered.

Coz they’re convoluted (boring) political pieces (that make little sense) and the acting throughout is absolutely woeful. What should’ve been an awesome story about love and betrayal between master and apprentice became a story about senate voting.

Outside all the light-saber battle scenes (which this nerd seriously loves), I can think of less than a dozen memorable scenes between all 3 films (as far as this nerd is concerned).

I might be the only person in the world who thought Jar-Jar wasn't all that bad. Even the original trilogy was full of quirky and insipid characters that only added to the charm of such an inviting and generally tolerant galaxy (R2D2 was dumb as hell); like the fact that humans didn't react incredulously to such eccentricities gave an air of galactic community I've always loved about Star Wars.

Don't get me wrong, Jar-Jar should have never been a major character, as he had no personality at all, save for the way he spoke, but the way people fixate on him like HE was what was wrong with the prequels is... dismaying.

Compared to the rest of the expanded universe, Luke's entire coming-of-age story is in fact the most uninteresting, if you ask me. Farm boy finds out he has the shining, so he goes to confront his dad about it. MEH. The life breathed into such a yarn is what's most remarkable, but don't try to tell me the plot and subtext of the prequels was woefully lacking compared to the original trilogy.

Get the out. There is nothing close to jar-jar in the OT. Nothing.

See, I always saw the story to about vader’s redemption. But that’s coz I love vader and don’t care about luke I guess. I think the plot of the prequels WAS lacking, in the sense there was too much plot, most of it was stupid, messy and unnecessary, and just uninteresting. Despite the OT not being particularly new or revolutionary or anything, I think the scenes in those films (prior to extra lucas rape) serve a much better, tighter purpose than the meandering mess that the PT is. Too much graphics, not enough gameplay. While the subtext might not be any worse I think the execution of the "text" (almost across the board) definitely is.

That said, I know all about film and film making.

Nothing close to the sort of exposure Jar-Jar got, that is absolutely true. But if they'd had a twilek or an Ithorian on board in place of Chewbacca? Well, it would have been annoying, but people wouldn't have bitched as much because nostalgia darlings wouldn't have given everything the hairy eye. :p

No, you're right. The prequels definitely wallow in their own filth, and the terrible dialogue just intensifies the threadbare plot. The original trilogy at least had great (if campy, or at least camp trendsetting) writing, in that you ought to have been aware it was a space opera western, and the fantastic craft behind presenting this was... well, yet to be surpassed, in my opinion.

Haha, I don’t even know what an ithorian is. To me, it’s all about the execution. 3PO was a mincing faggot but that made sense coz he was a protocol droid. I find him annoying but in a funny way. But yeah, if they’d included a twilek--fart joke combo then yeah, that would be equally lame.

Ithorians are space hippies. Like they believe in pacifism and nurturing things that grow. You'd love them. :gsmile:

I’d love seeing the sith rape them! :)

In any case, more Star Wars is fine with me. Disney definitely has the means to hire the right people, and I too hope they hire people familiar with the expanded universe. I want to see scenes from Luke's Jedi Academy on Yavin, and I want to see him fall to the dark side (he force gripped a Gamorrean to death and wore black in Jabba's Palace... cmon, you saw it coming). Leia ought to learn the force as it's in her blood, but introducing Mara Jade would be ing awesome, too.
