this music has been vogue for a few years now. the reason these exist is because the laws were relaxed around summer 2011

C'mon guys...

these festivals are a great thing. The only issue that needs to be addressed is the lineups. Unfortunately when putting up big festivals you need to have these bigger guys who have been here a lot because they sell TICKETS!!!

Granted there is so much amazing new talent out there and music has evolved incredibly over the past couple of years (Good and Bad), but these festivals need the big names to be viable.

I don't get it....no festivals...we complain...yes festivals...we complain...

The scene in Toronto is pretty vibrant at the moment as venues like Wrongbar, Moskito and others have helped bring in diverse acts to the city. The "neon" kids still have their fun at places like Guv and to some extent Uniun but the point is there are more options today in this city than there were five years ago.

Its good time to like dance music of any sort in this city.

I don't think anybody has a problem with festivals being held in this city...

...I think the issue some people have concerns the booking policy of some of them. It's like Toronto is a revolving door for the likes of Lawler/Dubfire/Avicci/C&C/Infected Mushroom/etc., and they're guaranteed to be booked here multiple times every year, regardless of if they've put anything new out or are doing anything currently relevant. These festivals would be just as successful, if not more successful, if they switched it up and brought reputable (key word), fresh faces. It's not like a festival in Toronto is guaranteed to fail if Lawler/C&C/etc aren't on the bill, the city deserves a bit more credit then that...

The party def looks interesting just for the fact that it is something different, but yes I do agree that it does seem like more of the same old. Hopefully the final lineup adds some cool names.

Toronto Mind-set...
Big Boss
How would you headline a festival with unknowns? The whole point of a festival is to draw the most people to the event, its for the masses.

If you want to see a niche artist the logical idea is to see them at a niche club.

Im all for new artists, but when you are throwing big cash around, you want to go with the safe bet.

I still think Diggers isn't a stretch and shouldn't be considered a risky booking.

Why does it have to be unknowns? Their are tons of other reputable acts out there that aren't booked here regularly, that would have a great draw if put together properly. I get that the "usual suspects" are the safe bet, but I don't agree with this notion that big events in Toronto need to continually book these guys almost exclusively, because nobody else would be able to bring out the same numbers.

Tell that to Mutek, Piknic Electronik or Igloofest.

I'd probably have moved to Toronto already if it wasn't for it's complete lack of interesting electronic music festivals.

From an organizers point-of-view I understand what they're trying to do. I personally don't think there is ever a safe bet with an event like this. Imagine a snow storm? There are risks from all angles. If it rains just a little bit people get scared in Toronto and they stay at home lol

That being said, this is a very cool concept, except I think they could have done a much better job with the name.

You cant compare Montreal to Toronto, its not a fair comparison. As a regular in both cities I can tell you the cultures are different.
