Would be sweet if i could get a new MBP with 10.6.8 installed

Here's an example.
Granted this is a video of the second most recent version of Logic, however I am having the exact same issues with the most recent version of Logic on my Macbook Pro with Retina Display. I found that the most recent update made the problem only marginally better, but I still always encounter freezing exactly like in the video below.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wI4n2bIBII0

I'm not a computer programmer, so I can't nail down the source of the problem. However, I have noticed that the freezing happens when:
1. there is any amount of GPU load. trying to use a spectrum analyzer like "Voxengo SPAN" instantly results in the system not responding at all for 15-30 seconds.

2. there is moderate-intense CPU load. i just feel like i used to be able to run more plugins on my older laptop. this shouldn't be the case considering my older laptop had an intel 2.66 duo core and my new laptop has an intel i7 2.7 quad core. the cpu efficiency just isn't there

the retina display is most likely the culprit. You basically have a computer that is less powerful than the previous model.
Juan Paulino
+1 I agree with that.

Are you saying that my macbook pro with retina display's 2.7 quad core i7 is less powerful than my five year old macbook pro's 2.66 duo core?

Because that sounds retarded.

Do you own a retina display macbook?
Wonder if this is a retina specific issue.

Also, I don't stick. You're just narrow minded and not terribly bright.

previous model. The retina display just eats resources, does nothing and is allround pointless unless you happen to be a hawk that likes to read.

The retina display is only really hard on the GPU and the MBP w/Retina display has a better GPU to begin with.

they are integrated with the cpu. Sane as the 3000. Except now you have a bunch of useless data you have to process.

No... it isn't. The 15" Retina Display Macbook Pro has an NVIDIA GeForce GT 650m with 1GB of discreet graphics AND the Intel GMA 4000.

It has both. It uses the 650m when you're doing anything graphically intensive and it uses the Intel GMA 4000 when battery life is more valuable. The operating system dynamically switches between the two graphics processors depending on what you're doing.

See:

http://www.apple.com/ca/macbook-pro/specs-retina/

It's only the 13" that just has the integrated Intel GMA 4000. The 15" has its own discreet GPU. I own one and it's a beast.

it has the same processor i have and i got mine a year and a bit ago. Retina display is beyond stupid. It isn't a beast. The only mac product you could tie that quantifier to would be the mac pro but you would need a time machine.
