Optional I believe. It's technically a compound word, similar to 'gay-basher' or 'rock-forming.'

:stongue:

I learned APA style in Uni, I was just reading up on it too. So yeah, it's just an American thing to place punctuation inside quotations. Which generally makes it wrong, IMO :o

I was just teasing.

It also justifies my refusal to place commas within the quotes, because I think it looks stupid. My girlfriend is going to be pissed that I now have a legitimate reason to ignore one of her grammatical gripes. I was originally just running with a shrug and "I'm stubborn."

Stu for best mod!

That's because you would spell it '.'

The British rule is to place the period outside of the quotation marks, unless it was a part of the quoted material. The American way is to always place the punctuation within the quotes.

Oh, it's a geographical difference?!

I've always place it inside because that's the rule here and because it just looks more natural. Never knew it was one of those differences that separate the two sides of the Atlantic.

Like I said though, it totally depends on the style guide you're following. Some styles, even outside the US, will place punctuation inside quotations.

I'd like to think they do it because they're wrong :p

This thread is about gays.

And Lira being the best mod ever even surpassing Stu after that outburst <3

Think about it though... What could be more gay than derailing a gay-thread with grammatical discussions?

I'm sorry, but this thread is now about punctuation. Frankly, I don't even know where to begin with this atrocity above ^^

There's the lack of a question mark on a question, as well as starting a sentence with "and". I won't even begin on the lack of comma use.

Shameful, in my opinion. You're about to graduate from University, god damn it! :p
