I think 'orientationism' is better because gays discriminate against straights too.

I can assure you you don't choose to be gay and there are hundreds of scientific studies to back that statement up. If you think you choose to be gay then go ahead - change your orientation. Find women sexually attractive and not men. I'm not on a pedestal, I'm offended that you could suggest something I've known since I was four years old was a conscious decision I've made. I've never been in a relationship because of my orientation. I hated myself in high school because of my feelings. Thousands of gay children have killed themselves because they were unable to deal with their feelings.

You choose to be Mormon. It's not ingrained in your genetic code and just because you agree with something doesn't mean you can't choose not to.

Clearly you're not reading my post. I agree with you. People are born gay. People don't choose to feel that way. It is who they are. I explain this to people in my church all the time. I get it. That being said... I have tried to not be Mormon (I wasn't raised Mormon by the way) I wasn't happy. I felt like I was lying to myself. All my life I had thoughts and feelings I couldn't explain. I felt like there was a void that needed to be filled. When I started going to the Mormon church, it filled this void. Sound familiar? Of course not. Those feelings are exclusive to the LGBT communities.

Wow, I definitely just read what I wanted to read. Totally glazed over the "don't."

I apologize. This subject is just (obviously) personal for me.

Thank you for pointing that out.

It's fine, I imagine you've had to deal with a fair share of bigots in life (Wiener isn't one of them though, that's for sure).

But she does bring up a good point: religion, to a large extent, is not a choice either. I'm not an atheist because "I chose to", nor because I was enlightened for whatever reason. It's just what feels right for me, and I wouldn't be able to make sense of the universe in any other way. Likewise, her being a mormon is as much of a choice as believing that Ottawa is the capital of your country. She never chose to believe that - many explanations (from where you guys send elected officials to what answer she should give when asked what the capital of Canada is), depend on her believing that, she likes it or not... and believing in her religion is the same.

I'm sure there's a lot more than just will separating the fit from the fat as well.

I can accept that. I suppose I never really chose to be atheist. I went to a Christian elementary school and I was sent to bible camp... It just never resonated with me.

I'm a gaytheist, because upon learning what it took to have His son, God said "I have to do WHAT?!" and just used magic instead. Faggot.

Oh yeah, when was the last time homosexuals banded together to deny your right to be legally recognized with the person you love, inherit their estate after they've died, serve in the boy scouts or in the military, or told you that you were inevitably going to Hell merely because of the way God made you?

The history of discrimination is rather lopsided, and goes far beyond mean words.

Dude I'm from Canada we have railways for all sorts of minorities here. Gay marriage has been acceptable since the 90s. Black people have jobs. The least discriminating country in the world. However that being said I still think penis 2 penis is gross. But I also think pineapples are gross. I think I have the right to be able to say yuck to both. Don't worry I'm not going to oppress you just because you like pineapples or because you want your penis grazing a mans back. But I should be allowed to shudder at it without being called a homophobe

You don't like pineapple?! FRIENDS OFF.

Actually I have a pretty low tolerance of pineapples as well.. Especially on pizza. Gross.

Vivid Boy
hey watch what you say about pineapples they may get offended

I'm gay and I don't feel that it's homophobic for a straight person to think that two men or two women being intimate is gross. We all think a lot of things are gross in our own way, from food to music to well, even the gender that we find attractive in some cases. It's called preference. Preference is not homophobia or racism or hate, it is WHAT WE LIKE for OURSELVES.
