I was completely blown away by the level of production at the SHM show this past weekend. Lasers, lighting, pyro, & visuals/graphics were second to none! I've heard that it costed millions, and it sure showed. I didn't expect a killer set or anything that would wow me musically from them, so I took it for what it was, a great musical concert/show at the SkyDome. My days of sweating it out in the crowd getting gross have long passed, so I was happy that the kind people at ABSOLUT Vodka Canada took care of us. Loved the view from where we were. Here are some pics & vids. Enjoy!
First up to open the night was Otto Knows. Still unsure what it is that he knows, that I don't, but clearly he's onto something
The main act & all that awesome production.

Just blows my mind that that many people will pay that much money to essentially watch three guys pretend to play music. I mean, I realise the flash and glam of the whole thing is an attraction as well, but it's just so empty underneath it all.

Huge waste of money.

We should set an example on TOTA and NOT review events of this nature...
I really don't think the average TOTA cares about things like SHM @ Rogers centre, Guetta @ Ricoh, etc.,...
Instead, lets focus on the more legitimate forms of electronica, whether it's trance :nervous:, techno, house, whatever.

I would agree but that's not gonna happen :) one can argue on who gets to decide which acts are worthy enough of a review and which show is good enough for a roll call.. a lot of TA's actually went to this event

I don't agree with elitism. you guys are honestly saying that your taste in music and events is better than the next persons?
i have been around here for a long time and it's always the same story. people always try to put down things that they a) didn't even attend and b)is not their type of fun. ha ha, that's a joke.
del's idea for this board is not some search for the next most underground DJ or club but a place where anyone can talk about anything they like.
I went to this concert. We paid only 40 bucks. Dance it out in the stands with a bunch of future clubbers. The visual production was INSANELY good. I am glad I went since a display like that I would never see at Guv or anywhere else in the world. the music of course wasn't exactly my style but there were some marching tunes.

It's not about "elitism", I'm sorry if it came off this way. And Funky you're right, obviously it's up to each individual to determine what's "worthy" of a rollcall or review...
However, I think we can all agree that SHM, Guetta, etc., aren't really the best representation of what our "scene" is all about. In a lot of ways these types of acts have been detrimental, they're selling a bastardized version of our scene and these neon kids are eating it up because they don't know better. They're the Eiffel 65 and Aqua of modern day, yet for some reason people take them seriously. At least with Aqua and Eiffel 65 we all knew it was a fun little gimmick.

i can't see any djs in these videos, all i see/hear is a bunch of strobe lights and ty music..

This is a very respectable viewpoint.
Its one thing to have tastes and preferences but there is ALOT of bashing happening nowadays.
Those kids were us not too long ago.....

I agree with Margs - as much as some us dislike SMH & the like, we can't tell others what events or acts to like
all we can do is pick & chose what events we want to see & skip the ones find ty
if anything FB is the outlet for hate & elitism ;)
