Lol, the bull begins:

Gizmondo headline: New mac pro will cost you $14,000! (and later they state how that could buy you a car, or even several cars). Don't kow what these paupers drive but it wouldn't buy half on one of my cars.

Oh, and then they say at the end it includes 2 x new 4k 30" apple monitors. Without them it's $9k.

How long are you going to wait Richie? :toothless

Such bull arguments tbh. You could EASILY spend $9/14k on a similarly specced PC if you went for the bleeding edge components that the MP uses. The MP is a premium product among premium products.

Very clever launching that frankly huge Logic update at about the same time too ;)

I won't be surprised if the next Logic update drops compatibility with everything but the new Mac Pro. That's OK, I just ordered mine - I can't wait to have those four USB3 ports. That's almost enough to run half my peripherals.

That would definitely be the 'Apple' thing to do, although I would imagine the uproar would be immense among the customers who simply cannot afford MP. If you mean Logic 11, then almost for sure I guess.

They're right though. Kinda. If you want a MacPro completely maxed out, than yeah. You can easily drop $14K.

Without Monitors...
$9,986.00
2.7GHz 12-core with 30MB of L3 cache
64GB (4x16GB) of 1866MHz DDR3 ECC
1TB PCIe-based flash storage
Dual AMD FirePro D700 GPUs with 6GB of GDDR5 VRAM each
Magic Trackpad
Apple Wireless Keyboard - English

Add 1 Sharp 4K 32" Monitor at $3,595 each...
$13,581.00

Maxed out w/Monitor AFTER Taxes...
$14,667.48

So what? That's more than enough for the OS and app installs.

The logic of tutting at what you can spend is stupid.

Go and spec the components used. The mid range Xeon, thousand bucks each. The PCI-e flash storage, thousand bucks, high end AMD cards, thousand bucks each, etc etc. Spec up and you'll spend a lot more, even just buying the parts.

Like I said, it's a premium product for a professional who will likely keep the thing for 5-7 years without ever worrying about compatibilty, upgrades or it becoming obsolete.

Correction: 256 GB SSD (which equates to about $100 more in value). :D

Off course it is for Professionals. I actually fit right into your last paragraph.

I own a Mac Pro and it has served me very well since 2006 without any worries. The only downside is that it can't be upgraded past 10.7 and I can't put a better video card without hacking it.

If you're a professional, than by all means get one. I use mine for business, so when mine dies, I'll be looking into the new MacPro.
