It is called a "challenge" exactly BECAUSE you're being told what to play. Seriously, if you're that allergic to having one of your mixes mapped out by other people's tastes, you really should be going for the "I don't care" option in the poll. |

The last genre challenge died pretty hard because people either got genres they have zero motivation for or just didn't do their mixes so I don't think that's going to work again.
I don't know what exactly Jack's idea was but I think it'd be pretty cool if we had a dropbox and everyone can upload like 10 tracks and then everyone has to make a mix out of these 100-200 tracks (except for your own). It would probably force you to be eclectic but you'd also be pretty sure to have enough material you don't completely hate because you have a big pool of different stuff to choose from. |

Okay so it seems like people either have problems with each of these ideas or they prefer one idea to the others and nobody can agree on any one of them. Even the voting results show a practical split down the middle.
So how about this.
We do all three options, spaced out over the next year.
We'll do Option 1 with the random track assignments next month (November 2013).
We'll do Option 2 with the Dropbox Master Crate in March of next year.
We'll do the traditional genre challenge in the summer next year.
If you'd like me to space it out more, suggest a month that we should do them and I'll mark it down. Alternatively, we could start this whole Challenge Series next year in 2014 and go beginning, middle, and end of year. The point is that we are going to do all of them.
This way, whoever doesn't like whichever option can participate in the one they actually do like, they just might have to wait. If anyone has a problem with that, too ing bad. Find another forum that does genre challenges.
Happy? |

The whole fun on the genre challenge was that you dig for your own stuff in that genre, genius. |

No, the fun was that someone else told you WHAT to dig for. Considering that your attitude is "don't tell me what to play, bitch", I'm not surprised you haven't caught on to this yet. |

Yeah, and you're digging for 90% of the mix you'd be submitting anyway, because you have to find tracks that fit the genres of the tracks you receive.
But you are clearly missing the point, so I'd rather you not participate at all since you're trying to be such a hardass about this whole thing. |

Ah yes, being assigned a genre is EXACTLY the same thing as having specific tracks assigned to you. Brilliant.

What the is this? 5th grade? You're the one shouting, "we're gonna do this, deal with it," and I'm the hard-ass? Grow the up. |

...which changes nothing about my point, namely: If you really are as precious about what tunes to play in a mix as you're showing here, this entire concept of a "challenge" clearly isn't for you. Just sit it out and wait for the regular genre challenge to come along again. |

I say do the dropbox thing. Pop 50 tracks in there, set a limit to the number of tracks each person can use (5) and best mix wins.
Each person gets a genre, and they get to pick the tracks from the master crate.
It's a challenge. It's got to have common parameters to make it sport. |

Your moaning and bitching in this thread is completely ing pointless. "Don't tell me what to play, bitch"? Yeah. You're the one trying to be a hardass. Meanwhile you barely even understand the concept behind these ideas, as shown by the juvenile idiocy you displayed in your conversation with Sand Leaper. Get the outta here with your bull.
Anyways. Here's a question for everyone else: Shall we start the Challenge Series next month or next year? |
