Ah yes, being assigned a genre is EXACTLY the same thing as having specific tracks assigned to you. Brilliant.

The whole point of coming up with an alternate challenge is so it isn't EXACTLY the same. However, it is the very nature of a challenge that your choice of what to play is restricted or dictated in some way. Both challenges do that in slightly different ways, so whinging about one of them for doing so just makes you look like a fool.

Anyways. Here's a question for everyone else: Shall we start the Challenge Series next month or next year?

I don't see any reason to wait till next year, unless you really want to take your time promoting the challenge on here. Maybe post some threads, Facebook people or use some of that fancy artwork you always dig out for your mixes?
ziptnf
Nah I'm too lazy for all that :p

My only thought was that it would be a year long challenge series for 2014 and we could label it as such. But if nobody sees the point in waiting, I'll just make the thread in a week or so.

Doing it after the holiday season means more time and moolah for the participants is suppose. I'd swing either way though.

Ooh, definitely a good point. With the holidays coming up, people could be short on cash for tracks. It could be good to wait for that reason. Any other thoughts?
Mr Game+Watch
Nov and Dec are gonna be extremely busy at work for me, though I get 2 weeks off for the holidays (then most of next year will be busy)... I'd love to do it around the holidays/early Jan. And I'm game for all 3 challenges, even though I think I'd like to try my hand at the "submitting 3 tracks" thing.

Or even what Sand Leaper suggested (based on what it seems like... start a mix and then have someone else in sequence do the next part of it) would be awesome.

I think a more interesting idea would be to make mixes based around themes or concepts, rather than genres.

That's actually a pretty cool idea. I'd like to see what different TA's do with the same concept or theme.

So those are two new ideas. A team mix where people pass mixed portions off to each other to build on, and mixes based on themes instead of genres.

So what's it going to be? There are too many damn ideas and changes being made. Are we ever going to set any kind of schedule for 3 finished ideas or are we going to keep expanding and changing rules? Are we going to have 5 parts to this challenge or 3? I guess I'm just confused.

Its up to you man. You're not going to make everyone happy. Lay down the law and make a decision IMO

I like the idea of theme/concept more than genre

ziptnf
It's just semi-annoying to almost have a plan set and people come out and say "well what if we do this instead" or "a better idea would be..."

Remember this is a poll, so I was originally asking for everyone's opinion. I just need to know if we should include these two new ideas or if we should stick with the 3 original options?

Agreed. We've all brainstormed for a way to freshen the concept up now. I reckon the guy who actually takes on the responsibility of organising this whole ordeal gets the final say of what kind of ordeal it'll be.
