Since we are both the same age, I'm sure we can both relate to each other really well. Probably no one else our age you won't be able to commonly find who listen to the best era of EDM. We're ed. We basically don't connect with most people our age, and whenever we go to EDM concerts nowadays there isn't gonna be a single ghost who wants to play any 90s EDM either.

I guess people aren't just willing to get into the older stuff, because it isn't what everybody else around their age who listens to, fear of ostracized, fear of being alone and unrelatable, fear of the unknown and also they just don't wanna give it the time and effort to get into.
... because if they did give it the time and effort, they would definitely get into it. I'm just completely confident that the older EDM stuff is better.
Here's the problem. They call us washed up and not open minded, when actually I've followed with a lot of the new Avicii, new Tiesto, new Skrillex and new Wubstep stuff over the years and tried my best to give it an open shot at it. I've tried my best to give it the benefit of the doubt. I've tried to get into it and enjoy it, but it will never be remotely as good as the old stuff. Blink 182 will never be as good as Led Zeppelin. Lil Wayne will never be better than Tupac.

I'll be 40 next month and still love uplifting trance. I do think the kids love their music like people of my age also loved the happy hardcore, which sounds rather crappy now (with some exceptions).
I sometimes wonder why so few here mention Jam & Spoon - Follow Me, Jones & Stephenson - The First Rebirth or Jens - Loops & Tings as their favorite classics while you can find them in all classic trance lists.
I guess the WTF effect when hearing those in a big room for the first time is missing. |

I know it's out there man. I see you people here on TA always bringing up newer good stuff that's still being released. I've enjoyed even some of the Ambient mixes by ASC that you recommended about a month ago. That was good stuff too.
I guess I'm still pissed off about how things have changed over the years o.O and changed in the most horrible way. It's like finally EDM is well known in the states, yayyyy. EDM finally accepted by the masses here. But of all times and of all genres, why dubstep and post 2010 electro house?? Anyways, you do have a point though, I should stop talking about it, cuz I'm sure everybody else here doesn't like how things happened here too. |

It's a matter of demographics. Folks who enjoyed electronic music in the past were the outsiders, cultivating their own scenes away from the limelight, save an occasional expose about the dangers of rave drugs. The mainstream sorts we see attending festivals now would have been into something totally different before, nu-metal or power-pop. Almost any dance track that did cross over was seen as something of a novelty here (Eiffel 65's Blue or DJ Alligator's Blow My Whistle), not an entire scene unto itself. If anything, it's remarkable the way the music's blown up the way it has, although almost all this festival-orientated music's gonna date itself to this era as soon as something else comes to replace it. Heck, maybe it'll be the growing wave of 'bro-country' that'll do it. Avicci seems to suspect so, hence his jumping on the 'folksy dance' gimmick last year.
Speaking of, don't cry over the prevalence of EDM as we hear it today - it's not that bad of a perversion of its origins (anthem house of the early '90s). If you want to see a true abomination unfolding, take a gander at what's been going on in the world of country music. They thought it couldn't get more outlandish than the days of Garth Brooks and Shania Twain! |

Why don't you go out there and try and find it? When you're young you are still pretty limited in the control over your own life, and that includes your social circle. It's the roll of the dice where you grow up and what your surroundings are. But when you get into your 20s, surely you have the power to control your own life? I spent the first 20 years of my life in the middle of nowhere with nobody who had much of a clue about the music I was interested in. Then when I was 21 I moved to a city with a strong music scene, I went to parties, I made friends and now I'm surrounded by people who like genuinely good music, rather than sat wallowing in my room listening to defunct '90s music on my own. |

This. shockingly enough, I was never addicted to the early era of trance. Unity 3 - Age Of Love Suite is pretty dope but that's one of a handful of tracks I like from that era. I also think the original kid paul mix of cafe del mar is pretty forgettable and compared to the Three 'n One remix. |
