Exactly. In fact, it's even more direct than that, because it means "If you can't afford to dress to a certain standard, you aren't allowed inside".

Say some kid wanted to see Kerri Chandler as well. He's broke, he hasn't got any smart clothes suitable for dancing but he's totally into the music and he wants to see one of his favourite DJs. But Kerri Chandler is playing at one of RANN's "really nice clubs" and RANN's desired door policy is in effect. Result? The kid can't get to hear the music he loves and see a DJ he loves. Why? So RANN can feel good in his aesthetic appreciation of those around him. Tough break kid. Come back when you're rich.

The club is to blame, not the punter that fits what said club deems accessible.

Face policy is not a new thing; fair or not, it is what it is. Some things are exclusive. Is it fair? Maybe not, but life isn't fair.

I've agreed with most of your points up until now, but you are reaching a bit.

There will always be things available for those with status that those with none must unfortunately forgo.

I don't think you guys understand. Back in the 90s and early 2000s dress code was put in place to keep the black guys out of the club. Now black people thinks it's fly to dresss up so to keep them out of the club they decided no dress code. When black ppl figure it out again their will be dress code again. And this will keep happening.

So you guys can argue all you want about the wealth division and how you just want to dance. The truth is though the club owner only wants 2 things from you. 1) spend money 2) leave your black friends at home

In China, they don't let blacks into the club, they club them.

Stay away Drake, you Degrassi wheelchair Uncle Tom.
Vivid Boy
Ya when drake comes to the club with me he always has a tough time getting in. I can't convince the bouncer he's white. I have to tell drake to describe his last relationship to the bouncer, they usually let him right after.

Of course, but techno should not be one of them. That has never lead to better parties. Hence why I think it's for the better that clubs don't set the policy RANN wants.
Dykes_on_Jay
I won't disagree, other than Kerri chandler not being Techno.

I'm far removed from partying now. That being said, the places I will in a blue moon frequent keep out the young and broke. I don't think it makes me a Nazi to go there, I just want a douche free environment. Granted this isn't clubland I'm talking about, but I think there is a place for the non-inclusive establishment.

It has nothing to do with being bourgeois; I'm hardly a rich guy. However, I do enjoy not being in the presence of ed out of their mind backpackers. I work hard, I'm here to relax and not have to deal with their bull.

Once again, this situation is not a dance club scenario, but not everyone that frequents exclusive places is a douche looking for status points. I'm willing to bet that many just do so to avoid certain chavy situations.
SYSTEM-J
I meant "techno" in the conceptual sense. I got sent a Chandler comp to review once, I know what he plays.

I don't have a problem with swank bars and clubs for those who want refinement, but that is a different thing to serious dance music, where people should go for - and only be judged on - their love of the music.

Do the brits still make the poor folk stay downstairs?

I actually don't think that it's unfortunate, except when it comes to basics like food/shelter/health care. I 100% approve of certain levels of inequality in life. I also agree I don't want ed-out-of-their-mind backpackers or douches in a club, but I don't think that has anything to do with dress codes.

In the end, I think a lot of it has to do with why you're out, which is why I keep asking Rann why it matters how other people are dressed. Like I said earlier, I go out to hear music, and perhaps to be with friends. I want the other people in the crowd to be enjoying themselves, but how they're dressed has no impact on me whatsoever.

Clubbing is supposed to be about the music!

A bouncer isn't going to interview you, or give you a Rorschach test. The way you look and hold yourself is going to be what indicates to them what they believe you are.

I'm not agreeing 100% with the situation, but I understand it.

Lews
This seems to presuppose the need to keep certain people out. Why does the bouncer need to make any decision about letting you in? If there is space inside and you're not obnoxiously intoxicated, they should let you in, imo. There should be more bouncers inside who can remove anyone who needs to be removed.
Silky Johnson
I think this song more than perfectly sums up what "exclusivity" in dance clubs is really about. Do ya want it?
