I'm just wondering where exactly your petit bourgeois materialistic smugness would tie in with reality. |

As for Berghain, they seem to favour the signposted Kreuzberg alternative look. Top-knot, scruffy facial hair and an insouciant roll-up? Apply within. |
I honestly think as long as you don't massively overdress (worse chance) or turn up in gay/fetish wear (better chance) it doesn't matters would you wear or what your facial hair is like at the Berghain door.
There is a fairly ridiculous trend of people inside wearing these oversized, black, 'goth' outfits inside (there are constantly groups of 10-15 twentysomethings sitting in the lobby area and they will all look exactly the same) but i'm not sure if wearing the uniform actually will give you a better chance at the door. Altough now that I think of it, people do dress up for Berghain, it's just ridiculous outfits inspired by gay/fetish/punk/alternative fashion culture instead of the classic menswear dress up. I always get a kick out of the outfits that gay people come up with, I think my favorite was two guys wearing soviet-era spacesuits made out of tinfoil. |

| If I dressed up like Neo from the Matrix, do you think they'd let me in? |

| Bouncers should screen based music tests. Or maybe that would only replace one form of elitism with another. |

Depends, how gay would you look in that outfit? |

Hmm good question. Probably a 5/10, where 1 is Teddy Roosevelt and 10 is a gimp suit. |

It wasn't the answer you were hoping for was it jack? :p
You called, I raised, you lost.
It's very interesting though to see that you needed to attack because you felt so threatened by the mere discussion of say, dressing better than a night on the sofa, or appreciation of design.
Fascinating insight in to your psyche.
The simplest of discussion in to materialistic things, even suggesting an appreciation of people who try to make an effort when going out (god forbid) is enough to intimidate you to the point of lashing out with a poorly formed slur against the person rather, than the subject matter at hand.
*It's OK to like nice things*. Even nice clothes or nice venues or good looking people. You're going to be swimming upstream your whole life if you can't get to grips with this. No one will judge you and you. Or are you another one of those boring pained writers who can't admit a fancy for the trappings, for fear it may compromise your desperate attempt at a (psuedo)proletariat existence?
For someone who travels a fair amount, you still have a lot of growing to do. A little more acceptance would make you a broader person. |

Ah, yes, because if there's anything that complaining about people not being dressed up exhibits, it's acceptance. |

Yes, I'm mightily intimidated. Given this discussion is about dress codes in clubs in different parts of the world, I was wondering where exactly you go out and what kind of DJs are playing because these things tend to give a good indication of what kind of people turn up and what kind of party ensues. The kind of club you're describing is usually antithetical to "ing great music", at least in my experience of clubbing in various places around Europe.

This is some novel Slychoanalysis. I must admit I was expecting the standard Jay-esque interpretation that I'm just poor and jealous. Instead I get the inverse - apparently I'm a deliberate class-slummer feigning poverty for authenticity.
The truth is more prosaic, unfortunately, stemming simply from the fact you have a habit of turning every discussion, whether about street art or clubbing, into a not-so-covert dick measuring exercise. I'm sure it makes you feel fantastic to let everyone know that you can afford to "own and pay for nice things", but to me you just end up sounding like this. |

Jesus why did I unblock RANN? Do people like that actually listen to themselves when they talk? Good lord.
