What happens when you die ? (pg. 9)

Renagade and Chrono made some very good points.
However, the question that lie at hand is plain and simple: What happens when we die?
As far as I know, with knowledge that I've acquired all these years, is that the brain functions by storing, relating, processing info, memories, incidents, experiences. Once a person is declared brain-dead, all these "memory stored" will be erased. Whatever experience we had on Earth is officially over and and done with.
As for a soul, what is a soul? Who defined it? Did that human being who coined that word ever seen or experience a conversation with a soul? Have anyone of us seen, felt or hear a soul talking to us? Maybe when you are on LSD, it could be a religious experience for many. Other than that, in our very sane society...all we see and hear about life after death is all very well-managed by the TV media.
Religion has proven to unite many groups of people, restore their self-confidence or what-not.
The Bible does have many articles explaining the works of Jesus and many other great men. In today's context, they seem relatively incredible and yet, we have yet to see any of those stuff since the bible was completed.
I tend to believe what I see and all I see is people giving money to Churches, sexual molestation in Catholic Churches worldwide resulting in deaths, low self-esteem and what-not. Capitalism and Sex all rolled into one. Don't quote me on this...I am just relaying what the TV has informed me.
Off topic, Could Evil be more tempting that Good? It seems to fit every citeria our World at large is presently engaging in evil activities as defined by CNN. Besides, evil is defined by the standards of the society.
Heaven is a mystery to anyone who's still alive....until we see, experience and live it, I feel that it'll be foolish to believe any works written by men. After all, there were like us and damn, our minds can take our thoughts to a whole new different level everytime, whether sane or high. Many cults have emerged over years and are still emerging.....All you need is a charismatic twat to make you believe what he says and a beautiful protrait of YOUR life is painted by someone's flowery words....
Eversince I was corned by this Christian pastor who talked a load of bull about evolution to me, it made me realized that human beings talk a lot of , translate whatever they have learn or read onto anything, anyone, thinking it's 100% accurate.
Believe 50/50 and choose what's right...no one can influence your thinking...be yourself....one life, too many things to do, too little time.

Adam and Eve never really existed then in the christian perspective, and we all evolved from microrganisms after millions of years and slowly evolved into our current state.
Of course evolution is contradicted by church teachings! It is practically the opposite: Christians believe we were created in the same form that we exist today. Not to mention that the bible says the world is only around 7,000 years old. |
I will repeat what I said before: evolution does not contradict the Church's teachings. Keep in mind I'm talking the RC Church, not the millions of other heretical ones.
All of the Chruch's teachings are actually very logical, methodical, philosophical... everything is rooted in reason. This comes as a surprise to many people, but it shouldn't considering that some of the smartest people historically are the ones who developed it. Catholic theology is a lot more than the "love everyone" attitude.
And you guys are still missing the point! We can argue all day about science, but you fail to see what that science is really pointing to. People who believe in God don't claim He's made out of atoms, so stop trying invalidate our arguments by bringing that up. The scientific method cannot prove God does not exist, nor that the scientific method itself is the only method for "validating" the existence of God. |

How is it not contradict the church's teachings? I fail to see this. |

The next big problem however is Islam. They're about at the level of christianity during the feudal ages. That religion is showing it's true face now, just like christianity did when they used to burn people at the stake. But that'll pass too. It's just a matter of time. |
Definatly a cheap shot on islam. The terrorists and such are not a product of islam, it is a product of twisted interpitations, and people lying to themselves.
as far as my beliefs, I don't have a real strong position on whether or not there is a god. However I'm confident that if there is a heaven I'll be fine, because I do a good job of leading a pretty morally correct life. |

It may contradict the teachings of the Bible, but recently (I'll take a wild guess and say 1992?) the Catholic Church accepted the theory of evolution as the most likely to explain the ascent of mankind, and decided that in doing so it was in no way diminishing God's role in the universe (that is, they feel that the evolutionary history of man could still be of divine origin).
Once again, the Bible may not support evolution, but the church (or Catholic Church anyway) definately does. |
