Cos if you download a song then burn it on to cd thats the same as owning it. :)

It's actually illegal as well. I know at the radio station i help at, the playing of CDRs is completely prohibited unless you can produce the original.

Edit: However the ones that aren't released (and therefore unavailable to purchase) might be ok. I suppose becuase the aim of white labels and TPs are to create a buzz about the track before it is released, by playing it on the radio you're doing just that.

But, owning the vinyl copy is the challenge....most are hard to find, deleted, etc. etc. I love knowing that some of the classics I own, cannot be bought unless second hand (if you're lucky)....i.e original pressing of CJ Bolland - the prophet (on FFRR 1997 release) not the repress from CD to vinyl you can now find on Rich pickings (sound is muffled, bass is baffled volume too low). Well everyone has their own way of doing things, I much prefer the exclusiveness of vinyl (not really these days), and know of dj's who use cd's only when they cannot find the track on vinyl.

Teknoscaper.
psygnosis quit pretending to be cool by playing 'l33t unreleased material'

unless you have the white label or released cdr from the record company, you are just a mp3 download net geek.

a) its illegal
b) its unethical
c) you're a tryhard

0 respect.

Unless psygnosis has been sent the cds as a promo from the record companies (i doubt it) OR has been given permission by the record companies or artists that made the tracks, then its wrong in my opinion.

If he wants to play unreleased there is plenty of it about that he could play, check the production forum if thats what hes after, or messaged Dave Begic and ask to play some of his stuff. People like this would be delighted to have their played on the radio and it would legal too.

I just think playing that isnt out yet, that youve not been given permission to play is wrong. Unless your making the cd for your self or something.

w3rd to u all dawgs, u dont have means illegal. Illegal means $50000 fine or 10 years jail. Dont say we didnt warn u :(

Man that guy in your avatar should be illegal!

Yeah seriously, unless you have been given a copy / permission from a record company / producer themselves, then you shouldn't be playing it. I know freshFM are guilty of playing some stuff that has been put onto CDR fomr mp3.

btw Christos i was joking with my comment. :)
JayKuE
surely mr tom brown has said a thing or two? =p

10. Motorcycle - As The Rush Comes On (Sweep String Mix)

has this had a proper release?
i thought the only available mp3 version was a dud taken from
gnd's essential mix, havin being mixed into and out of.

psygnosis, i'm curious coz i remember u sayin u only have spin cycles. u dun even have cdj's so ur mp3 mp3 mixing these mixes?

hehe.. my bad.. i really should read posts a bit more thoroughly before replying... thought he was talking about the fact that some of those songs havent been released...

Dj_Psygnosis
Whoa most of you people should chillout, i got most of these songs sent out to me and some i own on vinyl. Sheez, and JayKue, i use all 3 hardware to mix, CDJ, Turntable and PC to Master and make better. Your right, i don't own CDJ but my friend has them and i use his ones. And i did download a few of them but it's not like i'm selling this mix, its for personal use, and personal useage is not illegal.

And i'm wondering to myself my many of you people are taking this offensive attack on me when clearly many of these tracklists are done on CDJ or even MP3, and theyre not even owned yet..

*looks at Dj_Ballistic's tracklist, i'm sure he owns all them on vinyl, sheez, Teknoscaper why don't u argue with him and hundreds of others around the world...and why don't you take the time to complain to PIONEER for making a CDJ to play music...why the hell do you think they were made for in the begining.

Everyone, especially Teknoscaper should take a chill pill, and when a mix goes for radio i can't always play old stuff, i have to try get NEW stuff, if i was made to do mixes then ill do them all on vinyl but i'm not rich and i dont get paid so it's unlikely that i will be able to really afford them all of vinyl at the moment.

I apologise for the huge quoting thats going on here, i wanted to address psygnosis points individually.

Personal use for playing on the radio in an attempt (i assume) to get noticed and move on to better things? Im not keen on delving into the what defines personal use and what doesnt arguement, but im pretty sure personal use of mp3s you dont own/ripped your self is illegal. Yes that would make us all criminals, but public broadcasting is worse than me listening to it on my computer.

Most people in this thread are probably using the sets they have made personally though and not playing a radio show with them and passing them off as tracks they own.

Because cds are a lot more transportable than vinyl? Because its easier to play new and unreleased songs that are actually sent to you rather than downloaded and burnt. Even downloading and burning the mp3 to cd and playing it is fine in my opinion, if you have been given the authors consent. But i doubt gabriel or dresden called you up and said "please play our new single".

Cd Singles are a lot cheaper than vinyl, perhaps you could buy those instead of vinyl when you wanted to play new stuff? One reason that i like buying vinyl is heading out, hunting through a record store and finding a gem, or a really new good promo. Gives you a sense of achievement, much more than burning a newly released reconstruction and playing it.

Overall, I, and seems others here, think its a tad wrong to play stuff on the radio that you dont actually own, dont you?

Edit: Just out of interest
How many songs have you downloaded for that mix?
How many do you own on vinyl?
and How many were "sent" to you?
