UEFA Champions League anyone?

I'm so pumped for the quarterfinals this year. If I'm not mistaken, only Valencia amongst all the teams this year hasn't won a European Cup before.

The Matchups:

Milan vs Ajax - Milan are playing like right now in Italy. They lost to Parma and now can kiss their Scudetto dreams away. Ajax have nothing to lose and are way behind in second place in their Dutch league.

Inter vs Valencia - Inter? What can I say... what a bunch of chokers. You'd think that after last year's choke job at the hands of Lazio, they'd be able to learn their lesson. They tied against Roma yesterday after going up 3-1 with a quarter of an hour to go. As for Valencia, they lost 2-0 over the weekend and are 4th in La Liga. They aren't in good form either.

Man Utd vs Real Madrid - Marquee matchup here. Man Utd are in the form of their lives right now and have caught Arsenal at the top of the table. Real Madrid don't seem like they'll lose in Europe anymore after their fright in Phase II. Man Utd function better as a whole but Real Madrid possess the players who have the ability to beat anyone on any day.

Juve vs Barcelona - My sentimental favourite is Juventus. Alex Del Piero is my fave player and I'll be rooting for La Vecchia Signora. However, with Barca laying 9th or 10th in La Liga, they'll definitely aim to win the entire Champions League to gain entry into the competition next year. They're not gonna even make the UEFA cup at this stage.

My predictions:
Milan will win against Ajax.
Valencia MAY beat Inter.
I can't pick in the Man Utd/Madrid match. Too little between the teams.
Juventus should beat Barca.

Hm. The only interesting match-up is indeed Man. Utd against Real Madrid.. Too bad I'll have to miss it due to 2 exams that day.

If by some miracle Ronaldo will play as good as during WC there will be no stopping Real !

WTF? ONLY interesting matchup? I take it you don't follow much club football.

Inter - Valencia is a replay of the UEFA Cup Semifinal (or maybe Quarterfinal) of last year. Inter lost that and they'll be definitely coming out to look for revenge.

AC Milan - Ajax is a HUGE match. They were the duelling teams of the 1990s when they met COUNTLESS times in European competitions. The manager of Ajax is Ronald Koeman and he used to play in those great Ajax teams of the 90s.

I say you call in sick for your exams ;) There's so much football to be watched.

Man Utd could very well win the entire thing. However one advantage they don't have is that they are neck and neck with Arsenal and they'll have to focus on the EPL as well. With regard to Juventus and Real Madrid, they have a 5 and 6 point lead at the top of the table. That is, they have a bit of comfort.

And teams like AC Milan, Inter, and Barca have so much to play for. While AC and Inter are almost assured of CL play next season, they're definitely not going to end up with the Scudetto this year. As for Barca, they're guaranteed jack and they are placing all their eggs in THIS basket - the CL basket.

This year’s quarterfinals have been touted as the best in the history of the CL by some, regardless of the accuracy of that statement you gotta love this draw. I’ll especially be looking forward to the Ajax-Milan clash to see if the Amsterdam boys can find the glory days of the mid 90’s, they seem to have a lot of potential, I only caught them a few times this year and their quality of play was mesmerizing. They certainly reminded me lot of the indomitable days of Kluivert, Overmars, De Boers, Kanu’ & co. Real – Man U ? I’ll be sure to head down to Scallywags of the Duke of Gloucester to catch this because the glory hunters will blow the roof if Scum U goes through :tongue3. It should be a hell of a game. I haven’t seen much of neither Inter nor Valencia this year but this will certainly be an encounter and half. Juve – Barca? Another dream match! This is certainly a game where I wouldn’t be putting any money down.

Where will you be watching it? I’m most likely to head down to the Duke of Gloucester because the atmosphere can get pretty rowdy especially if an English team is involved.

Look out for Olympique de Marseille in a big comeback in the CL next year!

Cheers

I would love to see Inter win the league. That'll teach Ronaldo a lesson for selling out and moving to Real. Especially after everything Inter did to get him back up and moving, after all the trust and hope the team had on him when he was injured.

what tv channels do you guys watch these games on? The only ones I know of are tln and tsn. Are there any specialized channels that I could subscribe to??

The most popular digital TV channel apparently and the only channel that matters.
PLANET FUTBOL!!

The Champions League is broadcasted on a multitude of channels; you could probably watch it in 10 different languages mate.

I generally like to watch football matches at home, alone. It seems like a 'loner' mentality but it's because I can't stand some people at bars who are self-professed 'know it alls'. Plus, that way, when Del Piero scores a hatrick against Barca, I can run around my house, up and down the stairs, yelling GOOOOOL without being mocked :p

As for Scallywags, I really like the place. Not too crowded and the crowd itself is very friendly. It's three blocks from where I live (though I am moving in 2 weeks). As for Duke of Gloucester, I don't really like it as much. There is a long hair dude in a suit collecting $10 from people who watch the match. One time, I was short on cash but I needed to watch Roma-Arsenal. Well, I said I wasn't a footie fan and I got to sit down and order my fish & chips AND watch the game. Saved myself $10... lol. I wonder if that guy is mafia?
