haha case and point! there are 2 type of ppl in this world .. those who:
prefer: PC's, ICQ (sometimes trillian), and MP3/CD's players..
and those who:
prefer: MAC's, MSN, and NetMD players..
but there are plenty i suppose that do fall somewhere in between .. those are the:
prefer: Unix servers, Trillian, and MicroDrive based players ..
but then sometimes u get these kinda ppl..
prefer: Linux servers, AIM, and walkmans .. ?!? or something like that .. :conf: |

"PCs, Trillian and MP3 players" type here...
And just by having someone fall into one of these categories you can say a few things about him/her and his/her personality... it's pretty weird, but it's true (most of the time, for me at least). |

Haha I prefer PC's and Trillian but I just think MP3 players are jokes... at least right now...
Also Em, you said a while back that you're not sure why anybody would want recording capability when they have CD burners... well the point is to be able to record live with a microphone ya goof. :p You go to a party, the MD player + mic is smaller than a camera and you can record 80 minutes of the set, more if you bring a few discs.
I'd consider buying an MP3 player with external flash memory if the flash memory wasn't so damn expensive. Like I said, once they perfect that and the price comes down, then MP3 players will be worth it.
'Til then... MD 4EVA!
For those who want a simple analysis of the whole problem, here it is:
MP3 Players: Pros - small. Cons - low quality, low storage space.
MD Players: Pros - small (bigger than MP3 players though), decent quality, can record live. Cons - takes time to make discs, can't overburn discs.
CD/MP3 Players: Pros - holds several hours of music on one CD. Cons - player and CD's are big, takes time to burn discs.
HD/MP3 Players: Pros - holds TONS of music internally so no "extra" luggage required. Cons - breaks easily, bigger than CD/MP3 players.
I think that's pretty accurate and covers most of the issues... so based on that, make a decision which category you want, and then buy the most expensive item from that category. :p But whoever said Sony MD sound is , he's right, avoid them like the plague (I've got one and it disappoints me). |

Basically, just remember that you get what you pay for. :) |

yea i know u meant that .. but just cuz i can record with a device doesn't mean that i'd want to! i mean i can record a couple of minutes of audio on my cell phone. :P the thing is i wouldn't use the recording capability of an MD to record something like a live set or concert since the quality would just be awful. i'd much rather have someone record it professionally with a digital DAT or something. the only real use i can see in that is recording conversations, interviews, lectures, etc..

ugghzz.. i KNOW ur just generalizing here and obviously EVERYTHING will depend on the brand of the device ur getting. just remember that mp3 cd players come in 8cm versions as well above the same size as a NetMD but they don't get much publicity..
anyways, it doesn't matter.. give the market like 2-3 more years and everything will be MP3 extrenally CF based .. period. |

Bwah? Where do you get this from? The recording quality is not awful, you just need a half decent microphone. Obviously it's not going to be studio quality, but I've used it many times and it's fine. If you want someone to record it professionally you have to PAY for that. :haha:
And yes, I am generalizing, because people are getting confused and I'm trying to make things simple for them. In general, I think that's pretty correct.
Maybe the market will move toward Flash-memory based devices in the future, but keep in mind that flash memory has been around for a while and the cost hasn't gone down much. It could be 10 years before the technology is cheap and reliable enough to become industry standard.
You want to see revolutionary technology, check out Sharp's 1-bit audio. Crazy expensive though. |

alrite .. in that case, i'd like you to record as much of the iDream sets as possible to post for us to listen here. and cuz ur not using a professional DAT recorder, i'm not gonna pay you for it either .. :D

it'll come down faster than it has ever before .. due in part to the widespread and mainstream use of digital cameras now and less so portable audio devices.. |
