so Ferry DID show up to the TA meetup? Well damn....god dammit. It figures...we drove right by Esplanade on the way to the Guv at about 10 o'clock or so...was he still there at that time? |
Nope, we got there at about 10:20, he came for about 5/10 min before that and then left. Apparently his "handler's" were itching for him to go wherever. At least people who were there got to talk to him more.:D Too bad we missed it. Doh! Rj, you think he's going to do the residencey thing like you said? Hmmmz... |

well that sucks....I think he hung out with the Montreal guys for over an hour back in March. Oh well....at least he came. Tiesto or PvD would NEVER EVER be caught dead in with us at a local restuarant. |

ummmmm I seem to recall hearing about how Tiesto was chilling in the bar in Guv after his Koolhaus set in 2001. Also nice meeting Vtec junkie in the KH with the rest of us. :D |

Ah, well that was 2001 when Tiesto was still the Magik Man (not over commercialised as he, unfortunately, is these days). Now that he's the Number One Dj in the world, he'd never go to a TA meetup or anything like that. Next time he comes to TO (whether it's the Docks, where he seems to like it better, or the KH/GUV) let's all run it by his management and see how it goes.
Nice pic of Ferry at the meetup too! |

alrite time to post a PROPPA review ..
first and foremost OMG whatta wickid weekend this has been and whatta way to end the summer in more ways than one (for those who know) ;)
Anyways, onto the review:
Got off work at 11:30pm and unfortunately was unable to attend the pre-meetup to see Ferry. Fortunately I managed to get a ride down to the Guv courtesy of Aaron aka. TranceNerd (massive props and respects to this man).
Bumped into the Swampman outside as well as my breaks DJ co-worker in the Guestlist line bringing some vinyl in for Bassbin Twins..
Got inside and this is what happened:
The Guv complex was very nicely setup and decor was looking top notch. The place was rammed as expected, but they definately tried to ramp up the organization after last year's total nightmare. The night began with walking through the Koolhaus to the bathroom where I caught about 10 mins of DJ Dan's set. Eventually made my way into the Guv after bumping into some TA'z to catch Sasha and meetup with the rest of the massive. This is just about where the night took off.
Sasha was dropping a phenomenal set and literally setting the place on fire. A large contingient of the TOTA massive was up on the stage area going nuts. We danced up a storm and caught the attention of Sasha himself who turned to look our way and saluted the vibe. One of the funniest moments of the night came when this guy walked up to me and asked:
Guy: "yo!!"
Me: "huh??"
Guy: "Who's this guy playing right now??"
Me: "huh, what??"
Guy: "Who's this guy playing right now??"
Me: "What? I can't hear you!?"
Guy: "Who is this DJ??"
Me: "WTF, it's SASHA man!!"
Guy: "Dude, I can't even see your face right now!"
After a hot yet enticing period spent in the mainroom, Az aka. Time2Burn and I journeyed to locate my counterpart E2EK1EL somewhere in the Drink. This proved to be rather fruitless since the place was rammed jammed which Az felt was such a travesty as we both knew how much space junglists need to dance. To cram everyone into the Drink like that esp. for a headliner like Andy C was just a shame. Anyhow, High Contrast was on the decks and laying it down nice. It's just funny sometimes how it's impossible to find someone you're looking for at an event like this yet you'll often see the person who was standing next to you in line several times throughout night. Ironically it would be E2EK1EL to find us which concluded our brief time in the Drink.
Returning to the Guv main stage, a small TOTA expeditionary force including myself made our way back into the Koolhaus. On our way I caught a few minutes of Hybrid's set which was nothing less than awesome. It was just a pity that I didn't spend more time in there..
The return to the Koolhaus brought us an ongoing set by the Bassbin Twins. I had no idea as to what to expect never having seen them before, but I must say that one of the most enjoyable parts of my night was spent here. Their set contained a whole mix and blend of just about everything. From Rob Base's - It takes two throwback style, to Satisfaction the entire place was going berzerk. But what was likely the highlight of my night was when they unexpectedly dropped CHAMPION SOUND!!!. Hearing that diiiirty drum&bass track being dropped inside a packed Koolhaus led to ape like behaviour. The place went nuts! Unfortunately at this point, the Twins were winding down their set and many of the other tranceheads had started making their way into the venue which led to the "Ferry" chants on the MC's mic.
Ferry Corsten finally took the decks which led to the prompt influx of Tranceaddicts into the Koolhaus. The lights gleamed, the sound revved, TOTA massif was in the full effect and the stage was set. The rest of the night was as they say history. Most of us went up to chill in the Skybar for a bit towards the end of Ferry's set. The evening closed with Ferry holding up a large Dutch flag with a small Canadian flag embedded in the middle of it. (thanx to chanoa!)
The Verdict
Well I think it's probably safe to say that this was probably one of the most memorable nights and weekend ever. The vibe in the entire building was just unbelieveable. It is becoming more and more apparent to me now that it matters not what DJ is playing at a party but who you enjoy the DJ at the party with. Packed venue or not, the overall experience was still well worth the effort. The TOTA massive is the sickest crew straight up and never ceases to lay it down proppa.
Overall, what a wickid way to end the summer. :D

Great party!
Started off w/the meetup at Fionn McCool's, which was quite large due to the fact that some of us had out-of-town friends also in attendance. Ferry showed up, but very briefly, as his plane was delayed, and they had to rush back to the hotel for an interview w/MTV Canada. And yes, Dallas's conversation w/Ferry was PRICELESS! (It was just the 1st of many embarrassing drunk moments she would have over the course of the evening....;) *) Once he was done doing the interview for Alec's radio show, there was only time left for a few pictures and autographs. Regardless, Ferry still remains #1 in my book as far as being THE most down-to-earth big name DJ I have ever met, and he is seriously a class act. Thanks to Alec for helping arrange the meetup, and to Ferry for taking time for the fans.
Then off to the Guv. This year's party was far better organized! Quick lines, smooth flow of traffic, good vibe, having the jungle room up in the Drink and not in my way when commuting between the Guv and Kool Haus ;), and seeing SO many TA's out in full force. The only bit of traffic I encountered was during Sasha's set, by the stairs to the drink. Had a great time dancing to Stretch & Hooker at the beginning, Sasha's set was ok- didn't wow me from what I heard, few min's in the orange room at 3am- wasnt doing much for me, caught the last 15 mins of Bassbin Twins (couldnt WAIT for them to get off), and finally, the man of the hour, Ferry!!! He really threw down some sick tunes, and played quite hard. This was my favortie Ferry set in TO to date. When the 'rain' from the ceiling got to be too much, I headed up to the Skybar to catch some Mark Oliver, and found many TA's up there enjoying the fresh air. Went back downstairs to catch some of the last minutes of Ferry's set, where I heard THE tune of the nite- a new unnamed Johan Gielen track- OMG I DIED!!! SOOOOOO GOOOOOOOD!!!!!!! I LOVE Johan! Then ran back to the Skybar b4 the could refuse me admittance up there, and stayed til close (8:45am), when I then noticed Ferry & his friend Yuri up there as well. Got booted out finally, took Alec to the bus station, and then went to Ray & Marg's for the after party wind down. Resurrected myself from my sleep and made it to Cherry Beach around 8pm to meet up w/some of the last standing soldiers of the weekend, and lasted there til 10:30. All in all, great final weekend of the summer!
Shout outs to the usual crew (u know who u are) & every TA I saw; Alec from Ottawa; Brian, Charlie, Mike et al from Pittsburgh; Elson from Ann Arbor (hope u had fun- we lost u early on); my posse of friends from Detroit and DC; ChrisMack, who stumbled into the pre-meet by accident- nice to meet u; Obe & Heatscore- u gotta come out w/us more often- you're a great addition to the group; anyone who took care of Dallas over the course of the evening (a million thank you's); and to everyone who's made Graham feel immediately accepted by the group.
*Dallas sends out her sincerest apologies- she'd been drinking all day on an empty stomach, and doesn't remember the majority of what she did. |

This had to be one of the most memorable nights of my life. Arrived at around 10 with a bunch of non-TA's. Wandered around till 11.30, and then made my way back to the KH for DJ Dan. And he in blew the roof off the place. Danced for 3 hrs straight. Gawd i love dirtay house. Hafta say thopugh, that here wasn't much interaction with the crowd from him, but i couldn't stop dancing anyway. Went to the orange room and caught the beginning of Hybrid. was good, but i missed dj dan, i had to go back. The bassbins twins came on at 2.30. Personally, wasn't my fav, and i would have prefered them in another room, but i guess the variety is the spice of life. Then i went outside the KH doors for a minute of fresh air. i wanted to cool down b4 ferry came on. Now i hafta applaud the guv for the amazing organization skills. i wasn't at last years, but i heard horror stories. anyway, tried to walk back in those doors back to th KH, but a bouncer told me i had to go all around. this is where went bad. a guy i met convinced me he knew a shortcut. 30 mins later i found myself on those stairs heading down into the guv. no one could move. some guy put his hands btwn my legs and it was too crowded to move away or even see the guy. pissed as hell at that point. neway, got back to the KH just for the beginning of ferry set. just what i expected but better. i had a giant dutch flag with me(with a li'l canadian one in the centre, if anyone saw it) and ferry said to come up on stage with him, where i spent the rest of the night. ferry was awesome; relaxed, but couldn't stop moving, and neither could i. finally left at 8.30, completing the most amazing night!
however once again, in never met anyone of the TOTA's. i am still wonderin how this is possible b/c i talk to everyone, and ask everyone if they are a TA. dammit. ah well, better luck next time.
FERRY CORSTEN IS GOD |
