Update 09/05: We emailed id Software guru, John Carmack about his experience with NV3x hardware on Pixel Shading performance, and this was his reply:
GD: John, we've found that NVIDIA hardware seems to come to a crawl whenever Pixel Shader's are involved, namely PS 2.0..
Have you witnessed any of this while testing under the Doom3 environment?
"Yes. NV30 class hardware can run the ARB2 path that uses ARB_fragment_program, but it is very slow, which is why I have a separate NV30 back end that uses NV_fragment_program to specify most of the operations as 12 or 16 bit instead of 32 bit."

Higher FSB is alot better then higher multi (and I know its unlocked DUH :rolleyes: )
For example:
11x220 is better then 12x200, the higher FSB is the better memory speeds you'll get (BUT you must have a good memory stick to begin with, anything over PC3000 will do).
Ohh yea, I forgot to include my video card, its a ATI Radeon 9700 Pro overclocked to 9800 Pro speeds. |

I'll have to go with halflife cuz to me doom 3 is more of an action/shooting game.. Hallife is more of action/shooting adventure game. I want HL2 for the continued story and for the mods.. Doom3 I'd buy also but I'm getting the feeling the only difference is the graphics and that the story is the same.. Lab goes out of control everyone gets mutated and you were sent in to see what happened.. same thing as the previous releases of doom. If he made the story different that would be great it would also mean that he actually made something different. But overall I think Doom 3 is just a first person shooting good for deathmatches like Quake 1.
Hallife 2 gets my vote
But I'd still buy doom 3 for the heck of it cuz I like john carmack's stuff. It's like buying resident evil series :p They better have that Tomato guy in it or am going to be a very disappointed person.

| Im going to buy Half-Life 2 due to the online play (you need a valid cd-key), as for Doom III since its ONLY going to have 4 player deathmatch (which is gay!) Im going to download it. |

wrong! its actually going to have a story. id software hired a hollywood script writer. although it is hollywood... should be better than nothing :p

wrong! its 4v4 by default, so 8 total, and modders can increase the amount for their mods once its out. |

But you do realize even if it was a hollywood script it would be the same story thats what am trying to say.. Teh SAME STORY... Its really obvious from the trailers on Doom3... Lab goes wrong hell comes out and starts taking over human souls and making them into monsters. I mean heck they might have added scripted voices and movie cut scenes but its the same story as the rest of the doom series. As for Halflife 2 it Continues from Halflife 1 because Halflife 1 was more of like wtf is happening and Halflife 2 is more like oh ok now am getting the point. Am sure you played Halflife 1 so you know what happened in the end. |

| i dont think doom 3 will compare to hl2, i havent seen a single pic or video from doom 3, but hl2 is just so unbeleivable that i dont think anything will compare to it |

Yeah i agree the basic story will probaly be the same, but theres is going to be some good stuff inbetween, and not just kill kill kill, find key, kill kill kill, find key, kill kill....

Doom3's graphics is pretty cool and the animation but if your talking more of realistic environment I'd go for halflife 2. Doom3 has that cool realistic motion but the animation doesn't seem to be life like. Looks more of a cutscene on one of those final fantasy movies. While HL2 has a more life like appeal to it... Houses.. trees.. etc.. You can even screw around with anything in the area. You ever see the HL2 trailer booby trap. Man you should see what stuff you can throw around and break.. basically everything.. its insane.
